Menopause Matters magazine ISSUE 81 out now. (Autumn issue, September 2025)
Hi Artmouse - depends where you are in menopause and how old - sorry can't remember your story. 50 mcg is a medium dose - and what I started on and remained on for 9 years ( I recently increased slightly due to taking testosterone too) - provided you absorb it well. Did you suffer flushes and sweats and have these gone? Although 75 mcg is down as a high dose - it isn't high compared to the levels at ovulation - but of course HRT aims to be lower than that which would be too high all the time. The other thing is - are you taking the utro all the time and orally? It could be that some of your side effects are due to the continuous progestogen and you might be better off on a cycle and having a withdrawal bleed (unless you need to have continuous prog eg for endometriosis etc?).If you are peri-menopausal then you will still get mood swings from time to time and it's only when you reach menopause that everything stabilises (more or less) - and the only way to stop this is to take the pill or something similar (one of the gentler kinds) if you're under 50 which suppresses the cycle but gives you oestrogen.Hurdity x
