14 Years of Menopause and now new problems
« on: August 08, 2017, 12:11:12 PM »

Hi. Can anyone help. I've been going through menopause for 14 years. My main problems so far have been hot flushes, vaginal dryness and lack of libido. During this time my skin has continued to flare up once a month.

Now in the past couple of months my skin has been really bad all the time and doctor has put me on antibiotics, I'm moody, I'm growing little hairs on my chin, I'm battling to sleep. I'm constantly tired. I just don't feel great at all.

Hi Denise - welcome to the forum. You have come to the right place! Things will seem much better now you have us to share it with. Have you tried any remedies for your symptoms?

My skin has flared up over the past year - I'm 63 - and it is apparently Rosacea but I haven't found anything to improve it yet due to the fact that I'm allergic to the main antibiotic so I know how annoying it is.

:welcomemm:  tell us more about your symptoms and if you have been prescribed or tried any treatments?

Vaginal atrophy has several threads here, do read them and seek treatment.

Hi Denise
Just to say that I was reading somewhere that Nettle Tincture was good for Rosacea. My dentist had actually suggested it to me when I was commenting on how sore my mouth and gums had become and then when I read about it on the internet a lady had said that it had done wonders for her Rosacea. It could be worth a try. Another thought is that my son had awful eczema when he was a baby/toddler and nothing would help so eventually we went to see a Chinese Herbalist who having had a good look all over him/tongue/pulses etc prescribed a bag of herbs that I had to boil up everyday and that he had to drink. Amazingly he did actually drink it.  There was also a very thick cream/paste  that I had to apply to the worst parts but then after 3 weeks his skin was completely cleared and no redness/itching at all. It was amazing to see.
In Chinese medicine they look at the whole body and I think this is very relevant when it comes to the Menopause as it does affect every part of our body - or it certainly does with me!!
I have had some acupuncture/Chinese herbal remedies in the past and they have helped. It could be worth a try? X

Hi Denise1955

 :welcomemm: from me too....

As the others have said - perhaps you could tell us whereabouts you are on the menopausal "journey" - if you know that it - in terms of cycle length and period frequency, flow etc and how old you are?

There really is no need to suffer as there are treatments available of which HRT is the most effective - if you are able to take it. It certainly helped my skin as well as all the other symptoms - I started to get the menopausal acne or whatever it's called - the red raised itchy hot spots on the cheeks, when I was in late peri-menopause but they disappeared when I began HRT. They started to re-appear when I gave it up for 3 months a few years ago - but again went away when I re-started and have not come back I'm pleased to say :)

I also agree you should seek treatment for vaginal dryness if nothing else as this doesn't go away by itself.

Hi all. Thanks for your comments. It's good to speak to other sufferers.

I had hysterectomy at 48.  One ovary removed. I was on HRT for 8 years but doctors took me off as my mum had breast cancer. I'm now nearly 62 and in last few months my skin has just gone terrible. I thought I should be coming to end of menopause but I feel like I'm just starting. Doctor has me on antibiotics but they don't seem to be helping at all.  I also use an antibiotic solution on my face too but each day another couple of spots appear.

I will check on vaginal atrophy feeds. But at moment my skin is my worst problem. I'm also battling with moods and concentration too. I consider myself to be young for my age but just recently I'm feeling my age lol
