Lack of sleep is awful :'(       Menopause is awful  :'(   and not finding the right solution is soul destroying.... unfortunately we are all different so what works for some doesn't for others. For me, synthetic HRT was not a good thing and moving to Bioidentical oestrogen (without constant progesterone) has rid me of all symptoms (i still cant quite believe it) and brought me back from a very bad and scary place. Also since dropping the progesterone the bloat has gone and the weight is going down too. I have also noticed that I am less hungry and not as interested in carby food!  Women need oestrogen; for our bones as we get older and many of us cant function without it.  Keep listening to your body and if it isn't liking what you are giving it and reacting so badly then keep on trying to find something that does suit. We must be kind to ourselves  x

I hope it works for you Sue52.

The other thing is I wondered if when you are taking the utrogestan you feel any more sleepy? Some women find the progesterone quite sedating and while some of us don't like this effect, in your position you might find it better to take the Utrogestan all the time? If you are pretty well at menopause and your periods are very occasional this could work for you. You would take 100 mg on days 1-25 and then have three days off when you might get a bleed. It could give you the sleepiness you need, at least to sleep for a good number of hours initially.

Just a thought?

I'm on day 17 of amitriptyline for nerve pain in my back.  I take 10mg and can increase to 20mg if it doesn't control pain relief

I feel better than I have done in yonks.  Because it's helping with pain I can be more active, I'm not cured but it's allowing me to do more.  I sleep brilliantly now, I take it at 6pm to avoid grogginess in mornings.  And my mood is better and less anxiety.

Hi Sue 52. This may be a crazy tip. My sleep problems resolved when I went on holiday. The hotel room was stayed in was very dark and cosy. It has chocolate brown walls and blinds, cosy glow lamps, wonderful duvet. When we got back I was very worried the sleep problems would reoccur. First day back I went to IKEA...new lamp, duvet cover, fluffy rug,  painted walls  taupe, Changed the orientation of the bed, bought lighter duvet...everything felt different and cosier. Touch lots of wood and fingers well crossed I have had much better sleep. I do wake every night at around 3 I think but don't check the time, just have a pee and go back to sleep.

Hello
and I am new to this site and i must say its just fantastic that this website exists. Great Britain rocks.

Im agreeing that there is nothing to lose when it comes to dealing managing menopause. Our mental state and well being is so important and sleep is Paramount. Nothing improves if we do npt restore our batteries and sleep.
I've taken amitryptaline and yes it can help with sleep. Several years back i took it for chronic neck pain and it helped me sleep and the pain dulled quite a bit.

What's to lose?  Many ladies find that as well as HRT that they require an anti-depressant and/or an anti-anxiety medication.  Because HRT does not always relieve all symptoms!  I would opt for Mertazapine in the first instance and start it at a weekend  ;).

The other thing that I found helped was Kwells or an anti-histamine to get a good night's sleep but they didn't help mood.

Let us know how you get on?  You can ask advice at a Pharmacist too, most have private rooms now.
