I saw the GP today..
« on: July 27, 2017, 05:39:51 PM »

Hi, I posted a few weeks ago about being on Cerezette for many years, having awful menopausal symptoms and desperate not to have to start bleeding again.  I had tried phytoestrogens for10 months, with only a slight improvement.

I bit the bullet and saw GP today who has decided to keep me on Cerezette (even though I take 2 tablets daily) and added in Femoston 1/10.  She hopes this will reduce the chance of bleeding, but help the meno sypmtoms.

The pharmacist questioned the prescription, as apparently this is unusual.

I really don't want to be put off starting the femoston , but was worried this may be a little too much progestogen?  Also do I need a wash out from the Phytoestrogens?

Has anyone else continued with the mini pill but added in HRT and how did you get on?

Many thanks x

Didn't want to pass by without replying once I'd read your thread - but as an Oestrogen only user I'm clueless regarding your prescription, sorry.

Hopefully others will be of more help  - hang in there :)

At least the Pharamacist made the query, did he/she ring your GP?

Well, he had no need to because the GP knows me from the past as a medical rep, who actually used to promote Elleste.

Once he I told him about the discussion I had, he was fine.

This isn't what I was asking?

Hmmmm. Yes I would have thought that Femostan would cause issues in terms of too much progesterone.

However in terms of Femostan, you take 14 days, with Oestrogen and 14 days with oestrogen and progesterone. The stopping of the o and p tablet, usually triggers a bleed! Not sure how this would work in your circumstances.

I also only take Oestrogen so don't know much more than the above. Hopefully someone will be along shortly with more advice, but yes I agree with your thoughts xx

I understand that minipill is not licensed for hrt because it is a contraceptive and usually not a high enough dose (it is the lowest dose between POP, hrt and the COCpill).  Cerezette is a bigger dose and I have seen opinions written in forums for gps that it might be enough progestogen on its own, so should be licensed.........but it isn't atm.
Because hrt is not a contraceptive, some GPs put the two together (although I have not seen many posts about that it a while)

Two a day seems quite a lot, but I don't think it should do any harm if you do not have a problem with it.  The extra femoston is a sequential one, so you will have 14 days with more progestogen and 14 days without.  1/10 is low dose, so has probably minimal effect.

However, all this layering seems a bit of a faff and unnecessary.  I think my bowels would be permanently on strike with all that progestogen  :o

I would have thought it would be far better to have a mirena, then add the oestrogen with a gel or patch as that should give you the no-bleed, you will have enough progestogen in the right place for the hrt and contraception, all with the minimum amount of progestogen to do the job.  You would then be ok for the next 4 years, and could tailor your oestrogen dose to suit.

Hi Hasty

Thanks x

How would I go about an email consultation with Dr Currie (is it Dr Currie from Southport?)   It's just it is very difficult for me to leave the house and yesterday it took a great deal for me to visit a GP (that is how desperate I have become  :(  )
