Which Trade Magazine recommends 10 ......... my Grans always said 'a little of what you fancy'  ::) and we had no choice when I was growing up, because everything was seasonal apart from oranges, nuts etc. at C.mas and bananas .......

Shingles are triggered by stress or shock.  One has to be in contact with a person who has had German measles I think.  Both Mums had bad falls and both developed shingles within 4/5 weeks.  In the 1970s a friend who had long-going chemo also had shingles during treatment and her nerve roots aggravate to this very day.

Oh Daisy B - to have met Kathleen Dalton would have been lovely, she saved so many of us from believing that we were going mad !  She also represented women in Court.

I always had 'the runs' 10 mins. B4 a bleed began even if a period wasn't due so travelling around that 'time' became impossible.

Yes CLKD I didn't fully appreciate her expertise at the time .... I do recall a lovely serenity and sincerness about her. Shingles is bane of my life. Lysine is best thing to keep at bay. I have outbreak at least once a year. Last one was on lips few months back. Never as severe as first time though. That first time was in mouth and on tongue and caused Ramsey Hunt Syndrome - was just horrible. Just thankful wasn't too much damage. Had eyelid surgically lifted last year as it had never really recovered. Was thinking of vaccination but not a great success rate  :-X

I wouldn't be inclined to add any more chemicals anyway, I'm not a fan of vaccinations.

So far I've never had Herpes although I know several people who suffer cold sores on the lips .......

I haven't tried any of them. I'd be interested to see how you get on with them.  I'm lucky depression hasn't been one of my symptoms, although I with the menopause I have developed a lack of interest in things and I seem to tick every other symptom.

I eat loads of fruit and veg.  I probably do have about 10-12. I'd increase it slowly if you're not used to it or you'll be in the loo all day  ;D.  Good luck with it. I'm interested to hear how you get on with the supplements too

I took my first lot this morning, was meant to have another of one of them thus afternoon and then another dose of all of them tonight.
I felt fine this morning but then this afternoon I started to feel quite irritated, anxious and very hot! Now I don't know if it's because of the heat we've had today but I tried to nod off on the sofa but I just felt I was burning up so went to lay on bed with ceiling fans blowing on me. I must have nodded off as I recall some weird dreams.
Not sure wether to take the dose tonight or wait till the weather cools a bit?
I'm always very nervous of trying new meds etc as I worry I will have some sort of psycosis or something  :o just something that worries me since I had my breakdown 4 or so yrs ago, it's never happened of course but always scares me  :-\
I also came on my period this morning  ::)

"Shingles, also known as herpes zoster, is an infection of a nerve and the skin around it. It's caused by the varicella-zoster virus, which also causes chickenpox.
It's estimated around one in every four people will have at least one episode of shingles during their life."

You can catch shingles from chickenpox but not chickenpox from shingles.

If you have had chickenpox as a child then the virus lingers in the body and can reappear at times of being run down or stressed.

We don't vaccinate against chickenpox in this country as its seen as a minor childhood disease.

Good luck with your new regime.
Keep us posted as to how you get on.

Vaccinate over 70yr olds in NI - part of national programme my GP said -  I have to pay private - but after reading statistics from USA I wasn't convinced. Met a nurse couple years back her OH had 4 outbreaks in 1 year! Best defence is lysine - apparently body builders have highest recorded recurring shingles due to arginine being main supplement in their diets. Mine always break out if I'm really stressed!!  :-\

Hubby had shingles on his side a couple of years ago.
He was very lucky I think as he was neither up nor down.
Mind you something would have to be hanging off before he would complain.

He did seem fine though. So many people are in such pain with shingles.

A very interesting post. I think you should have confidence in your doctor and start the regime. You've come this far so just go with it whole heartedly. There is no point in stopping and starting as you will not get the benefit of it. I have great faith in holistic medicine.
