Feeling alone anyone?
« on: June 12, 2017, 11:14:47 AM »

i did something positive just now - I contacted the local meno clinic at the hospital and made myself known to them as a referral is in the pipeline. I thought after putting the phone down how a little achievement in taking positive action, when you are struggling and tired, demotivated etc can instantly lift your spirit. Now my next thought was wouldn't it be nice to be able to share that with someone? It's a small thing and i wouldn't lift the phone to hubby or family in the middle of the day - so I'm sharing with you guys ;)  but it did make me think how isolating and debilitating this hateful process is. Going to ask at the clinic about peer support groups, if they even exist??

Well done DaisyB. Isn't amazing how being a little bit pro active can make you feel more positive.

I think all kinds of ill health are isolating to be honest. Not easy to be sociable when you feel grim. I haven't heard of any peer groups for meno. I think that the online kind is about the only one.
It's easy to loose sight of the fact that most women do absolutely fine during meno. It's only the ones like us that end up here looking for help and support.

Things will improve. You just have to keep your eye on the little light at the end of the tunnel. It gets brighter the further you go.

:foryou: ......... I feel like that with regards our garden  :-\.  I simply love the effect throughout the Spring and now we have roses everywhere as well as blue tits.  But no-one visits  :-\.  Both Mums would be interested ....... but that's not possible.

Why not take part in the National Garden Scheme.

You could show off your garden AND raise money for Charity.

Win, win. :cheer:

We went to a show garden a couple of weeks ago. Wasn't all that impressed. It had more weeds than mine.

I know MrsB - what doesn't kill you makes you stronger  ;)  even though we might be a minority ( depending on what way you look at it - because I think it's a much bigger problem just not reported or misdiagnosed) peer support is so important in longer term management.  CLKD bite the bullet and show off that garden  :)

Hasty this forum has saved me, literally. But you know those days when a wee cuppa and chin wag is all you need? I have a lovely family but I have had problems for so long I hate drawing attention to it too much - even if it is positive!

CLKD I would be delighted to visit your garden anytime and I could bring a cake  ;)

DaisyB I know what you mean, someone to pick up the phone or go and have a cuppa with.  Well done on your small victory  :foryou:

This forum is great for connecting with like minded ladies though as I am quite antisocial on the whole  :)

Great stuff DaisyB! Cuppa tea and a chinwag - sounds very welcome. Yes it's great to get together in real life as well as having online support. Perhaps you can start one (menopause support group - or just a chat group) if there are members in your area and if there isn't one already, depending if you are rural or urban or near centres of population? If you are up for it then start a new thread to see if anyone else in your area might want to meet-up?

I know what you mean DB but for me the problem is there aren't any humans around here to chat with at all.
There are a fair few sheep but they aren't awful good at chatting  ::)
[/quotee]

Hasty, I don't have anyone to chat to round here, but when I have sheep in field behind our house, I do go over and talk to them as fence is short, maybe I've gone mad!!

Lemon drizzle BJ?  ;D ......

Mum told me that her house (which is huge) feels empty and I think that she misses sharing her daily activities with people.  She does have people dropping by though  ;)

Oh I talk to anyone, even the tadpoles  :o.  Himself never answers 'cos he doesn't know whether I am actually addressing him .  I chat to the wild birds, neighbours' cats, mutter at the dogs who continually bark down the street ........

We have Church/Chapel groups locally, sewing groups, reading meetings, Nordic walking .......
