Feeling unwell
« on: June 08, 2017, 03:35:49 PM »

Hi,

I've just changed to the Utrogestan / oestrogel combo.  I'm using 3 pumps and still feeling unwell.  Burning, sick feeling, night sweat, hot.  Has anyone tried this and had to change?  I was reading about Premarin.  Last week on Femodene I was happy, busy and getting up early to do yoga before work.  This week I feel sad, unwell, tired and like crying, especially in the morning.  I wondered if there are any ladies this combo hasn't worked for?  It's early days, I'm just on day 4, but noticed the downhill from day 1.  Just not sure how long to give it before requesting a change?

Hi Katia. I'm on the same combo and it's my 4th attempt at HRT. I've struggled on for 3 months with similar symptoms and I've taken the utrogestan vaginally and switched from continuous to sequential therapy in the last month . Bottom line is that I've felt quite ill on it. Burning, rashes from the knees up all over my body, low low mood, no energy etc. I thought I had won a watch when my consultant prescribed it but after a few days I started to feel unwell but persevered, despite my gut feeling that it was doing me more harm than good.

I saw him again last week and he's going to try me on Estradot and 200 mg Utrogestan for 7 days per month ( with back up scans )
I'm progesterone intolerant so I've decided to give HRT a break for a while to see how I go. I'm not certain that I want to keep doing this to my body as I've struggled with every HRT regime for 19 months now. I may have to go back on it but the oestrogel/ utrogestan combo just wasn't for me.

Don't know how you're taking the utrogestan- you could try vaginally as less side effects. It's early days for you so I'd say try it for a little while longer if you can to get your body used to it x

Hi Michelemabelle, this sounds just like me. I am unsure whether to persevere with the HRT. I haven't a rash with this, but I am prone to them. I do have burning knees with this combos too. I don't think I'm progesterone intolerant, but I think it may be the balance and type of progesterone. I tried the Utrogestan vaginally last night and felt worse this morning.  I've had a burning face and rash symptoms over the last few years with some pills:Yasmin and Qlaira. Qlaira being the worst, I could only stay on it a week. It was like a constant temperature.  On the flip side, I had not problems with cilest or Femodene.  This is what makes me think it's more related to either the balance of the estrogen/progesterone or the type of progesterone. I was happy last week on Femodene, but now I'm 50 I know I really can't stay on it much longer so tried the HRT.  I know I should give it a bit longer as it's only been 4 days and I'm sure I read the HRT takes time to build, but it seems to be downhill from day one. Have you tried Premarin?

No I haven't katia- I know it's one of the older types. Seems to work for some women but it's falling out of favour in some quarters I believe.
I'd give the utrogestan some time to work but if it's not for you, don't keep going if it's making you feel utterly dreadful.

Michelemabelle, I actually feel a bit better today. I used three pumps of the gel last night and the Utrogestan. I took it earlier, around 7, which isn't really convenient but it was better. I think I may need to up to 4 pumps of the gel, at least for now. I'm not sure it last 24 hours in my system. How many pumps were you using?  Does estradot have more estrogen? I've read premarin works when others have not.

Hi Katia

If you only started it this week then your body will still be adjusting. Femodene contains a strong synthetic oestrogen so will affect you slightly differently to estradiol. It may well therefore take a little longer to acclimatise than if you had started HRT from scratch. I should keep going with the same dose for a few weeks and see how you feel. Women vary enormously in how much oestrogen they absorb from gel and patches and each has their own preferences eg I use patches. They are all designed to deliver approx. equivalent amounts. The highest dose of Estradot is 100 mcg which could be approx. equivalent approx to 4 pumps but  as I said this is variable depending on you and your skin and how you apply it. Sandrena gel (comes in sachets) is more concentrated so you need to apply less of it.

What Utrogestan dose/duration are you taking? Cyclical or continuous? 100 mg or 200 mg?

I hope things improve soon :)

Me too Hurdity. I can't believe how down things can go in a week. I'm taking 100mg Utrogestan. The specialist gave me two options of taking it. My GP has never prescribed it before and put a label on saying take 100g daily. I tried it vaginally but I felt worse that day so I'm not entirely sure it all the Utrogestan.  The next day I felt better until about 3pm and went really tired. Last night I slept for 12 hours and feel headachy and crappy today.

I don't know how these convert to Femodene. Qlaira didn't work for me as I had some of the same burning fever symptoms I'm having now but worse.

The bleeding seems to have stopped, so maybe it was my period. The lubrication down below has come back a bit, but it's waterier and I'm burning.  I don't know whether to use vagifem, or see how this HRT combo works or doesn't first

I've asked on the thread for the Utrogestan/oestrogel combo if the gel is time released.

I know I need to give it longer, but it's so hard when I know one Femodene would change my life. I've had lots of little things change this week too like more dental plaque.
