Treatment (Non Estrogen) for Vaginal Atrophy & Menopause

I have been watching this trial now since 2008 with excitement- I am currently using Ovestin for 6 years... and have always been worried about the risk of Uterine Cancer. 

They have just published findings about this drug which is used in Germany.

If only I could understand it ! 
The side effects look pretty worrying considering they are marketing it as a Non Estrogen option...
Spoke to my doctor about it today (as I have just got another UTI)   ... she is not aware of it.
Ladies have you had any dealings with this drug?

I couldn't find any information about Ospemifene being licensed in the UK.

I had a quick look at this and I can't quite see the point of it? Is it that it is an oral vaginal med rather than local?

Rebecca - there is no evidence that long term use of ovestin can cause endometrial cancer but as discussed recently on another thread (by Bananarama), there are few data on long term use of local oestrogens.

However if you are concerned why not talk to your doctor and ask for a scan, or failing that if you can afford it pay for one privately although this should not be necessary. As always it is important to be vigilant about any changes in your body and report any abnormal pelvic pain and especially any spotting or bleeding.

Maryjane .... How did you find that out?

Hurdity..... Yes, I agree with you, I can't see the point accept you swallow it! Quite dissapointing considerng they initially hailed it as 'a one to watch' as it was introduced at the beginning of the trials that it was a non estrogen drug   
The side effects and warnings mimic Ovestin.
I was not concerned about long term use until 2 locum doctors at my surgery pointed out how long I had been on it! and asked... 'Did I really need it' ?
I told them both that my Gynae said I would probably be taking it for life, there was no need to be concerned that as it is such a low dose not much of it would find its way into my bloodstream...coupled with the fact that they also mentioned that some people on Ovestin had reported blood clots. 

I might write to the people that made this product and see their take on my concerns...
