First missed period ???
« on: June 01, 2017, 07:02:28 PM »

I have posted on here lots of time as I'm having various tests done...have also been trying to work out if my list of horrid symptoms are thyroid or perimenopause as the symptoms are the same....not thyroid according to my doctor even though my levels are lower in two areas than they should be so just as I was decided it must be peri I've missed my first period so guess that confirms that then....I am 25 days late so 53 days since my last period...I keep having pmt sysmptoms but nothing comes along.....I'm waiting to go on hrt too so typical I'm late when I need to get going...I just wanted to ask if this could be a pattern and what to expect...will I get a monthly soon then miss a few etc or will I always be all over the place...and when I start my femoston should that make my monthly regular again...a thank you

Hi Peroxide, have to agree with sparkle, things get less predictable in the latter stages of perimenopause.

Did read something (sorry, don't have the source now) which stated that for most women the final period is 2.5 - 3.5 years after the first 60 day cycle and that most women have a 90 day cycle 0.5 - 1.5 years after their first 60 day cycle, though 1/3 women's first longer gap is 90 days.

According to the STRAW calculations you're now in late perimenopause (well, if you make it to another 7 days ;))

https://www.menopause.org/docs/default-document-library/straw10.pdf'sfvrsn=2

For me, I had a 60 day cycle last March, and then nearly 90 days between October and January, then loads of periods close together and am on day 29 now. Think all bets are off as to what happens now.

Sorry, can't comment on the HRT, hopefully someone else can

Hi there - yes I agree - how long is a piece of string! Anything and everything is normal. I wouldn't worry about waiting for your bleed before starting HRT - if you have been prescribed it - I mean what happens if you are still waiting 2 months down the line? You can always adjust the cycle later if you end up being totally out of sync. Yes once you start HRT (the cyclical type) it should give regular bleeds again ( unless your cycle breaks through) - but not in 100 % of women especially those in late peri-menopause.

Good luck :)

Thanks a lot for your help...I d9nt miss a period but the waiting for it is horrid as I'm out and about working and dog walking and I don't like knowing I could come on anytime when I could set my clock by hiw regular I was a year ago. This year I've varied from a week early to 3 or 4 days late but never this long..so I'm definitely mid way perimenopause you think because my gp said all my symptoms are not conducive with meno made me feel mental and unbelieved until I found this forum thank goodness..it still could be something more serious many of the ailments but most point to peri I hope... :)

Now I've missed my first period can I get a blood test to confirm peri as I'm sure my doctor will take me more serious and be more amenable if it's confirmed. I know they can be unreliable but I thought it's different now I've missed a month ..it's 56 days since last period thanks

Sorry if I've missed what age you are Peroxide, but if you are over 45, doctor will go on symptoms only as tests are so unreliable.  You could be peri and have normal or menopausal  levels, or anything in between.

It is stressful not knowing when a period will begin, just always take tampons with you and wear a pad when you think you might get a period, or at least a liner.  I personally hate the unpredictability but it is what it is.

Hi again Peroxideblader

I'm a bit confused - did you say you have got Femoston but are waiting for Day 1 ie your next bleed before you start to take it? If I were you I would start it now - after all you have missed one so theoretically you are in sync with your own cycle more or less.

I agree with nearly50 also - you are almost certainly peri-menopausal if you are over 45. have missed a period and are getting typical menopause symptoms. Your doc should know this and you do not need blood tests.

I still have tampons with me at 64 ( always carried them before) - because I still have a cycle and just in case it decides to do something funny like cause a bleed at the wrong time, and I always wear (and carry with me) the micro panti-liners - well in my handbag at least. Have a mini rucksack or shoulder bag packed and ready by the door for when you go out and about and hopefully that will put your mind at ease.

Hi I'm 48 but our gp is old school ignorant and apart from flushes thinks any other symptoms are in my head and not peri related. Yes I have femoston ready to take and I was told to only take it on the first day of your period so I've been waiting. It's a month tomorrow since I should have come on but I also am waiting for other health tests to be sorted before I throw hrt symptoms in the mix. I'm hoping I'll come on soon then be back to normal them once I have my biopsy I can start the hrt

Well that's my second period missed only by 5 days but its been 61 days since my last period I've had no major pmt to indicate I'm coming on just bad stabbing tummy ache this last week and zero patience and angry a lot that's usual the last few years though ..I'm taking it I'm full blown peri now but there's no other sinister reason for loss of periods is there?? No one has missed 2 other than peri have they  ( it's not thyroid been checked for that)

At age 48 it is perfectly normal and doctors would assume you are peri, unless there's a chance you are pregnant?

I'd say it is good news to be at the next stage of peri, one step closer to of being over  :)

Thank nearly50 ...I wish I was pregnant but sadly can't see it at my age...those years have gone now....but I like your comment saying it's good news I'm a lot nearer to it being over ...I thought that but then I read it's nowhere near..looking back this all started 4 years ago earliest aged 44 but I keep being told peri is approximately 10-15 years ....if it is shoot me now lol..I'm estranged from my mum now but she literally had no idea she was going through the menopause until she realised her periods had stopped a year before..had zero issues just stopped at 52... sadly I take after my maternal nana who went mental stabbed her husband took to drink and spent almost 20 years in and out of mental homes.....

We're all different,  for all we know that could've been your last period. I'm 4 years in and  pretty sure I've only got a year or two left to go, I'd put the 10-15 years out of your mind, doesn't tie in with what I've read for most women.

You're 4 years in but can I ask why you think your nearing the end...I darent hope as I'm scared I'll end up like my nana and go off the rails I'm barely coping now but that's the 4 hours sleep every night and the angry all the time..if it lasted another 10 years I think I'd be a very lonely woman as my sons would definitely move out my hubby too.
Wouldn't blame them ..I'm not me any more just the deflated depressed anxious recluse with no go at all...

I'm following the same pattern as my sister and mum, and have gone 3 months without a period earlier in the year. I know the times I feel well are finally outnumbering the days I don't whereas two years ago I felt terrible all the time. Plus, hope springs eternal. This isn't a condition like MS or a life limiting disease, and I  really do try to remember that when things are rough. The support on here is fantastic and reading women's experiences who are a year or two ahead of me gives me great hope.

Maybe you will feel better when you are on hrt, the sleep is a huge part of it I know. Hope you get your other investigations sorted out soon.

Maybe keep a diary, I personally forget the times I feel OK when I'm bad and it is helpful to me to look back. Keep posting peroxide  :)

Hi Peroxideblader

Not sure where you've got the 10-15 years from? I think you're in danger of depressing yourself unnecessarily!

As nearly50 posted below you could well be in the late peri-menopause - and according to this (STRAW  criteria) once you have a gap of 60 days you are in late peri-menopause which can last between 1-3 years. Of course this is only an average from studies of populations of women and there will be many who do not fit the average! For example if this is the first time you have skipped perhaps you have missed out on the early stage. On the other hand your pattern may be different as nearly 50 - periods stop for a while and then come back for a while. I really wouldn't analyse it at all (I am so glad I knew nothing about any of this when I was going through it - it just happened - missed periods, symptoms, flushes, sweats, long gaps etc!).

You said you were waiting for other health tests before starting HRT and not sure what these are - but I hope you do not wait too long - as said earlier it could do no harm to start your HRT without waiting for that period ( which could be a long time coming). There is plenty of help to stop you going "mental" and if HRT does not work and you actually are in danger of becoming seriously mentally ill and this does not respond to hormonal treatment - then there is medication available. Firstly though -  you need to sort out your hormones and hopefully you will get some sleep.
