I have some precious patches!
« on: May 31, 2017, 08:35:41 AM »

Feel a bit like an addict getting a fix but managed to get a couple of boxes of Estalis patches yesterday!

I went back to the doc who was happy to write the prescription and gave me a special one which means I can get more than one box at a time, downside is trying to find a chemist with them in stock but managed to get two from one. Everyone is saying that they should be back to regular stocks by June.

She said that the trouble with tablet forms is that you get a spike of the drug whereas with the patches it's slow release and therefore more tolerable, which makes sense.

It's a little ironic as just these last couple of days the boobs have felt more normal and I feel less puffy, so maybe finally things were settling down but in any case prefer to be on the patches.

Downside is that my blood pressure is always up when I visit, it's definitely white coat but also of course when you go it's rushing to get there, waiting 45 mins to get in and then you know it's going to spike! I take it at home and it's normal so she's suggested doing a 24 hour monitor to measure spikes against resting, trouble is I think that I'll get white coat knowing it's taking readings all the time! Even at home the first one is usually high and then comes down! I'm doing everything right to keep it down although the last couple of weeks have been a bit stressy which may have affected it.

Anyway, it was good to go armed with info from others experiences of tablet forms v. patches and the side effects, thanks ladies!

Take the 24 hour test for your BP they will be ok with the 2nd test being lower each time.

Classic white coat syndrome!!

Well done for getting your patches I hope they help lots  :)

Glad you managed to get some patches wombat - I'm also having mine rationed by the surgery! If your BP is normal at home then why do you need to have a 24 hour monitor? My husband had high BP at surgery and they lent him a home monitor and then accepted his readings (which were normal). We now have our own although forget to use it  ::)

Hi Hurdity

I think she just wants to be certain, she is quite thorough! I have noticed even with the home readings the upper number is higher than it used to be and I think that's what they look for as you get older. It's the lower number when you are younger.

I think the BP can only be stress or genetic. I was always on the low side when younger but as I've got older and heavier it's gone up (since meno!). I've lost over 10 kilos and doing all the right things (diet, exercise, beetroot juice etc) so the only thing left is stress!

Thanks!
