sick leave
« on: May 24, 2017, 08:32:20 AM »

I will have to leave the internet alone for a few days.  My back, neck and shoulders are screaming and fragile after chiro and massage.  I know they will be so much better by the weekend but the laptop and keyboard are aggravating them terribly.

See you all at the weekend, or next week.  Good luck Claireylou, hope you feel better soon CLKD, be good everyone and don't eat too much chocolate or drink too much gin .

I will remember to bring a note from my mother when I return  :)

Sorry the back pain is still awful for you, it's so wearing. Hopefully you'll feel better really soon.

Wishing you well BJ x

Getting better, thank you for all the posts and good wishes.

Still not using the laptop much, especially typing, but I do read for a little while each day to keep in touch  :)

Would you be better with an iPad or similar Babyjane.  I find them easier than a laptop.

thank you littleminnie, I did get an ipad but I couldn't get on with the touchscreen and scrolling.  I gave it to my daughter and she was delighted  :)

DH has a chronic back problem, apparently caused by the physical trauma of falling off the back of a motor bike at 70 miles an hour, aged 19. The problems started later in later life due to aging and stress. Initially he was in agony on the floor. He has learnt to look after his back and general health. He has regular 'maintenance ' appointments at the chiropractor, who got him back to work and saved him from surgery. He sets a timer for 20 minutes to work on his lap top and computer, before getting up and having a break. He has invested in good seating. He can't sit on our settee any more. When we can afford to we will replace it. He is brilliant at testing car seats as to whether they are good for backs! Employment opportunities here? I got him to test out car seats when we were choosing our new car! You will have to be disciplined with computer use, but actually do what all of us should.

I know all about maintenance with a chiro, I would not be upright without mine.  I started off twice a week 4 years ago and now on routine 8 weekly unless I do something silly and get an acute problem. Custom made orthotics in my shoes have also made a great deal of difference  :)

I go for Body Stress Release treatment instead of chiropractic treatment, with the blessing of the chiropractor, as you can't have both. The BSR practitioner can help with vaginal problems as well and gets hospital referrals. Not in the chiropractor's remit. Along the way she sorted my damaged knee, while the chiropractor couldn't and helped release some of the tension around my throat, so I can swallow more comfortably. She keeps my back aligned, though my back problems don't compare to yours or DHs. Very grateful. The chiropractor sends me useful info about IBS via my husband and daughter. Lovely man. They have the expertise that GPs cannot and do not have. Do you have a good, supportive chair?

Oooh ladies, in agony with my back today. Does anyone have any hot tips please?

Three bulging discs in lower back which used just to be upset by one off things like gardening etc but it's become much more of a constant recently. I tried Voltarol 12 hour yesterday which did nothing. Took a Voltarol rapid 50mg tab with breakfast this morning. Sitting in any position on any chair with or without extra back support is hellish. Tried heat with a wheat bag and also hot water bottle yesterday, which usually help but again no relief!

Sorry to hijack your thread BJ but desperate here. Only usually take pain meds for migs: am I correct that you can alternate paracetamol and NSAIDS? x

Hijack away, glad the thread is useful.  Yes you can take Paracetamol with NSAI, my GP said it is ok  :)
