Is this me or menopause
« on: May 17, 2017, 04:20:39 PM »

I have the chronic pain condition Fibromyalgia, I was diagnosed about 13 years ago and have been getting along ok with some flare ups every so often, however this week I had to leave work after only half an hour because I was in so much pain I didn't know what to do with myself,I went to see my gp a few weeks ago about mood swings and generally feeling depressed, she sent me for bloods and told me it could be perimenopause,I have also been anaemic for months so she tested me for that too,I've had to have more bloods this week and have to go back next week to speak to her about the results,I'm wondering if the menopause might be causing the flare up of my Fibromyalgia symptoms

I can't say for sure but I have ME and don't no what's what.
I've just been to doctors and started having a hot flush which nearly brought on a panic attack, I said is that possible and part of hot flushes and she said no be panic attack.
What symptoms are flaring up? Could be menopause or even feeling depressed. Good she has sent you for tests though xxx

The main symptom is pain at the moment,I'm used to being in varying amounts of pain every day but lately it seems to have escalated, On Tuesday I was in so much pain everywhere I just didn't know what to do with myself, I had to leave work after only just getting there and then spent the day in bed dosed up on codiene and paracetamol, today hasn't been much better,I normally manage my Fibromyalgia through keeping active but lately that just isn't possible,I have still been managing to go to work but I don't know how I get through the day, I'm hoping that when I go back to see my gp she will have some ideas on what to do

Peri definitely aggravated my chronic fatigue and muscle and joint pains.  To be honest I'm convinced my CFS is closely linked to fluctuating hormones.  As I'm sort of coming out the other side and hormones have calmed down I generally feel better than I did.  Still not sleeping well but that's because hot flushes have kicked in.  For me anxiety/panic trigger flushes, in fact the first inkling of a hot flush us a split second feeling of anxiety, which I believe is the adrenaline rush!  Nightmare!!

I'm starting to see a link between my cycle and pain symptoms,I'm still having periods although they are becoming more erratic and I have noticed an increase in pain when I am due to have a period or just before one starts,my pain levels have gone through the roof this week and I also feel like I might come on so maybe there is a link, you are right it is a flaming nightmare

Ah no, so sorry to hear this. It could be linked but least your getting tests.
I hope your ok at work and they are understanding as must be very difficult.
Don't panic or worry just look after yourself and get the tests done asap so the doctor can see what to do next.
Sending  hugs xxx

Oh poor you!  As oestrogen levels drop so muscles may become lax = aches and pains.  Also the body dries out: nostrils, deep in the ears, eyes, vagina ..... so from where I'm sitting peri-menopause may aggravate your underlying condition.
