Hello from slightly worried new member !
« on: May 02, 2017, 11:29:42 AM »

Hi everyone,
I have just joined up after reading and looking at the great support and help you all give each other ( even my GP has recommended your website to me )

I have had a 'grumpy weekend'  after starting my 1st period in over 20 years !!! I am 54 and was prescribed Indivina 2mg/5mg after blood tests, the tablets did not agree with me and after 2/3 weeks of stomach cramps I gave up and stopped taking them- then my period came, though light I  had bad cramps. My history is briefly had Polycystic ovaries and Endometrosis in my early thirties and prescribed the pill until starting HRT last month. I had my last period in my early 30's.
My menopause symptoms seem classic and my energy levels are all over the place, was really hoping HRT would help, perhaps expecting too much ?!!!
Anyway, I now have a lower dose HRT, Premique 0.3mg/1.5mg but as we are going away a few days next week I have decided not to start them till I come home ! hopefully my period will have vanished by then too !!
Gosh it seems all so complicated after steadily taking the pill for so many years. Was wondering if coming off the pill and then HRT gave me the period ?
Thanks ladies for listening x

Hi there Dotty - welcome to the forum!

Cannot comment on the pill interaction unfortunately and just wanted to wave and say hi - a lot of ladies try different types of HRT before they settle on one that suits them.  I dont think you are exepcting too much, all anybody wants to be is normal (or as normal as we can be going through this!).  Have you seen a menopause specialist or just the GP?  The specialists are much more knowledgeable

Good luck

Hi Pixie,

Thanks for the welcome... appreciated 😀😊☺.So far just seen my GP but he seems really interested and did say that HRT can be trial and error until I find what suits my body and he is happy for me to see him at anytime if I am concerned. I have just moved and find this new GP's practice excellent so far ( fingers crossed !) Have a telephone consultation booked in for Thurs just to check that my period was caused by stopping the pill & the HRT I took for 3 weeks. So pleased I've joined up and looking at the different threads/posts everyone seems so friendly and offering bits and pieces of info to each other. I am not sure if my menopause has been creeping up on me and with moving house last summer my mind and body was absorbed a bit, now things have settled now I have become very ' body aware ' ....or perhaps the menopause kicked in big time a few months ago  ? ha ha !!!
Thanks again,
Dotty 😺xx

Hi Dottyaboutdurham

 :welcomemm: from me too!

What pill was it that you took for all those years? Was it the POP? I presume it was a no bleed type because of your endometriosis? Yes it is most likely that the period has come from stopping the HRT but good to be checked out especially with your history. Presumably docs will want to have a look at your womb lining if it hasn't been examined recently.

Because you have to take oestrogen and progesterone all the time, sometimes the synthetic progestogens can cause unwanted side effects - but hopefully you can find a product that makes you feel better overall. Some women tolerate Femoston better than the other HRT tablets - but the highest dose on this one is 1 mg oestrogen so no scope to increase to higher doses. Premique is one of the older HRT types and contains a mix of horse oestrogens  so doesn't work in quite the same way as the other HRT types - but many women seem to thrive on it, so hopefully you will too :)

Good luck and let us know how you get on - oh and enjoy your holiday/time away whatever you are doing!

Hi Taz & Hurdity,
Thanks for the welcome 😊.
I have an update.....spoke to my GP by telephone consultation who confirmed the period was most likely a result of the withdrawal of the pill and then the 2 weeks or so of HRT, should I have any further bleeds though I need to make another appointment.
He did agree it's a good idea to give my body a rest and start the new HRT in a couple of weeks time- I did take the pill for many years.
I took Mircogynon for about 15/6 years then another pill and most recently Cerazette, I was advised to take the pill by the gynocologist after I was diagnosed with PSOS and to be honest I felt great and had no side effects. I did take evening primrose capsules for 10 years and stopped about a year ago.
I appreciate you interest Hurdity and the info. I go away next week and will keep you posted as to when I start my new HRT & how it goes. I am so glad I joined this forum as I feel part of something great and it's lovely to share and be open about everything  !!!
Thanks again

....me again, my endometriosis must have not been classed as severe enough to put me on a non bleed pill as I clearly remember having break through bleeds/ periods at some point  - though I think I must have took mostly the continuous pill . To be honest I did not pay  attention much in those days !!! I like to know the ins and outs more these days 😂😂😉🙋!!!!

Hi Dotty, and welcome!

As a cautionary note on Premique, Prempro has recently been discontinued and I'm not sure what the future of Premique will be as the combined CEE HRT's are falling out of favour now. If i were you i'd seek out one of the newer combined HRT's in the form of patches or maybe tablets. I'd hate for you to get settled on this and then find it's being phased out in the future too.

Hugs,

Tempest.

Hi Tempest.

Really appreciate your concern and thanks for the info regarding the Premique. I gather the low dose version was brought back into production at the beginning of the year, perhaps I am wrong ? I will try it anyway as it will be interesting to see how I react to a lower dose HRT after the original one I was prescribed. Fingers crossed they will keep churning it out or something similar will be come available on the market.....knowing my luck it probably won't work and it'll back to the drawing board !!! Hard to be positive at the mo, but trying hard...god loves a trier !

Thanks again, hope you are having a nice weekend,

Dotty xxx
