Author Topic: Desperately need recommendation of the HRT that would be suitable  (Read 2849 times)

Hi everyone. At the end of my tether and looking for advice. My doctor doesn't have a clue what it comes to HRT and has admitted that. I was on Prem-pak but it didn't agree with me. I was then put on climesse even though I was premenopausal. I pointed this out but he said it didn't matter. The climesse actually did agree with me however it was discontinued. He then prescribed me something that I found out was for people who had had hysterectomies and asked if he could prescribe Kliofem as it was similar to Climmesse. Then after not having a period for about 8 months I am now consistently bleeding. Usually dark brown but sometimes fresh blood. I've also got a horrible face discolouration on one side and down my neck. Does anyone have any advice for me or am I just better trying to manage without the HRT. Feeling down and ugly. Please help xxx

Hi ShoB

Welcome to the forum  :)   I'm sorry to hear you are suffering with your hrt.  It doesn't help having a doctor who is clueless.  I used to have a doctor like that but thankfully he has now retired and I have a nice lady doctor who is fairly clued up on hrt.  The one I use is Femoston 2/10.  It also comes in Femoston 1/10 which would be a good starting dose for you.  A lot of ladies on here use this without any problems as the Progesterone it contains is a very gentle one which most people seem to get on with.

Take Care and Hope That Helps You

Hello ShoB
So sorry to hear you have been having a rough time. I am just new and finding great comfort and reassurance from this site. I am afraid I can't advise on HrT as I have just started this journey! You mentioned a discolouration on your neck. I noticed this a few months back  - didn't even pick up on it as anxiety and other strong physical symptoms have been crippling - would be interested in hearing if there is indeed a link?? I am sure one of the ladies with long term experience will be along soon to reassure you DaisyB   :welcomemm:

Hi - It is difficult when they keep discontinuing things. :(

Have a look at the tabs at the top under "treatments" "hrt preparations" - there is a page for perimenopause (sequential) and a page for post menopause (continuous).  They come under low dose, medium dose and high dose, which should help you find an equivalent for the oestrogen part.

Most doctors start with Elleste, which contains norithisterone, which is inexpensive and effective on the uterus lining.  The next one to try if the progestogen does not suit is usually Femeston.  They both have 1mg and 2mg forms and a continuous form - (although the Femeston has lower doses in the continuous which might be useful for gradually reducing hrt).

Usually, you give it 3 months, then change one thing at a time where this is possible (eg, the dose of oestrogen, the type of progestogen, the means of delivery ie pill, patch etc)

I think the Elleste 2/10 and the Femoston 2/10 are a similar dose to the Prempak you started with.

Hi everyone. Thanks for all your advice. I went to the docs and asked about Femoston and he put me on that instead. Now I'm bleeding heavily with huge clots. After researching I'm assuming it's because my last HRT was continuous and this is sequential. Hence no progesterone for the first 14 days. I don't know why I was ever on continuous as I'm 52 and haven't been a year without a period. Do you think I should keep on with the Femoston as this is normal? I've read sequential HRT is for pre menopause and continuous is for post menopausal. Yet the leaflet for the Femoston says it's for post menopause??? I'm so confused. Please can someone help as my doctor has no idea what he's doing. Thanks xxx

Hi ShoB
I had exactly the same bleeding problems as you on Kliofem and changed to Femoston 1/10.  I had a break of about a month in between starting the Femoston and then the bleeding stopped and I started the Femoston.  Perhaps your system just needed a break before starting the sequential.  Is it definitely Femoston 1/10 or 2/10 you've got as you can get Femoston as a continuous HRT as well as sequential.
