That's about 24 hours too late then  ;D

Tony Blair has a lot to answer for  :-\  :-X .......... even some who were University material were unable to do the end of Term exams., a couple of friends had to leave as they failed their 1st Year due to nerves.  There's a huge jump between 'A' Levels and University.

The people on the desk this morning booking people in B4 they voted couldn't have cracked a smile between them.  Maybe the chairs weren't comfortable?  :D

"we" were promised extra security but there wasn't a Police person anywhere in site in our area.  So I could have started a fight ;-) but there wasn't anyone who wanted to join in  ::)

Also CLKD you used to have to have good grade A levels to get into University (the Russel Group 'real' Universities still expect this) yet now kids can do a BTEC which doesn't involve taking any exams it's all assessments yet apparently, 3 Distinctions at BTEC are equivalent to 3 A's at A Level! How on earth that works I don't know. However, the Russel Group Universities will not accept students with BTEC's.

I've just had a car driving around our Close with a loud speaker shouting 'VOTE LABOUR'!

My son took a BTech in computing twelve years ago which enabled him to go to University. He didn't do the Uni route but chose to go straight into employment but it's not a new thing. Each University in the Russell Group has it's own entry requirements. If you wanted to go to Southampton to study Accounting and Finance, for example, you are accepted with a Level 3 BTech - or you were last year anyway. I guess it might have changed. My son's BTech would have got him into Southampton, Bristol, Sheffield and I forget the rest. 8)

I always find the ones manning our polling station miserable. I tried to crack a joke but they weren't interested!

Don't you think the education system needs to go back to basics again? I know it's different in England, but still.

They developed all these new courses so students could get some kind of qualification, but nobody told them that they might not get jobs. Our son didn't do well in his 5th year at school, due to a health problem we weren't aware of at the time. He was heart broken. He went to college & didn't particularly enjoy that. He was lucky though, as he got some experience in design at college, which helped him get the job he's been in ever since.

The thing is now they have "dumbed down " some uni courses the cudos of having a degree has gone.

Scotland has been a bit different. Our schools generally don't do any qualifications other than the traditional ones.
To do medicine here you have to have 5 A grades at the first sitting and then go in to have 5 further AS grades again at the first sitting. Law and Vetinary Science are much the same.
For my daughter to do her Business degree it was 5 B grades. My son was the same for his Computing Science degree.
There are the totally daft courses but a lot of the more modern unis are becoming more job orientated. The "older " unis are not the same. That would be Glasgow Uni for us. My daughter applied to art school as she is very talented and had the grades and portfolio. They give priority to overseas students.....why....because they bring in more revenue. She gave up on that and turned to a Business School.

It's about time that there were more apprentiships. The only people...mostly boys ....that have got to anything like that....are sons  of tradesmen.
It costs too much to train someone for four years.....hence the lack of trades in this country.
I think that would make a huge difference.

Apprenticeships down here were frowned upon for years after being successful and a route into full employment.  I think that the Government should go back to the 3 Rs, drop Ofsted visits and concentrate on teaching children to the best of each student's ability!  Don't mis-lead them into thinking that they are capable/not of certain qualifications.  I think if one follows a particular interest that they will do well!

Any results out yet, apparently Kettering will be one of the 1st to declare.  I'll not be sitting up: You?

My nephew never enjoyed school so having to stay on until 18 was torture for him. He lived for weekends when he could go and work in the local supermarket shelf stacking and earn some money.

As soon as he left (having done various GCSE re-takes and still failing them) he was taken on full time and ten years later has worked his way up with in-house training to a decent job and is now buying a house with his girlfriend.

SIL says the last year at school was a TOTAL waste of everyone's time and only served to make him feel "useless at passing exams".

We need to get real - higher education isn't needed by or beneficial to the majority.

I agree. My nephew is a lovely lad and did a degree in Marketing. The teachers at school rather pushed him into it but his heart was never really in it. He got his degree about 10 years ago and has never had a well paid job since. He went to Australia twice on work permits and has worked in pubs, restaurants here too. All minimum wage stuff. My Mum always told him he should have trained to be either a plumber or an electrician rather than going to Uni.

Whatever the outcome in the morning, there's nothing we can do about it. Remember the whining, whinging, crying and demanding another referendum last June. OMG I can't go through all that again.  :'(

I don't think I've bought a paper for 5 years now. I do read them online sometimes.
My friend just messaged me and said she is staying up all night to watch the results. I don't have her stamina.  ;D

I'm already bored and according to the exit polls it's another hung parliament and probably Corbyn and the Crankie forming a coalition. God help us...
