Anyone found Vagifem makes their vagina sore?
« on: April 17, 2017, 04:36:12 PM »

Hi
Please can I have your opinions if possible. I haven't had a period for 4 months but am not on any HRT at present. I have used Vagifem once before for a week as I kept thinking I had not got rid of a UTI but I also had thrush (which I didn't know til the result came back after a long two weeks delay!) I was burning inside but when I found out I had thrush I stopped the Vagifem and treated the thrush. As this was my first thrush for decades and first ever UTI I decided to see if it could all calm down naturally. The gynaecologist I saw and a meno expert agreed.
Now that my vagina has finally settled down after the UTI and thrush and I can have sex comfortably I thought I'd try again with Vagifem to help with my bladder/ wee urges which I haven't talked to any doctor about yet but think they will suggest Vagifem again. But as soon as I inserted it the burn began. It hurt all night and during the day and made the bladder urge much worse  :( Now it's wearing off it feels better.
So do you think I am reacting to something in the Vagifem? I'm not dry so don't think it should irritate me this much. It is making me grit my teeth.
Please help  :-\ :-\

I think it's certainly possible.
A way to find out would be to try a different type of local oestrogen - an estriol cream or Ovestin, or the Estring which is a higher dose delivered via a silicone ring.

You may be sensitive to the fillers, some ladies are I think.  the oestrogen itself gets absorbed but the fillers don't and get passed out and can make the tissue irritated.   Saying that I had irritation for the first 3 weeks of VF then it wore off.  that was 6 years ago and fine ever since  :)

I'm not sure I can bear to persevere. It burns and my clitoris throbs. It's not nice :(

So stop!  Buy some LIVE Greek yoghurt and eat lots as well as applying to the outer vaginal lips: soothing, cooling and will ease the entire alimentary tract to encourage good bacteria.  THRUSH (candida) thrives on sugars, LIVE yoghurt will knock the sugars out.

Did you have urinary tract infections?  The way to find out which AB is suitable is for a urine sample to be sent to a Lab..

Ask your GP for Ovestin.  Applied differently to what you have been prescribed and doesn't have fillers/outers in the same way.

Yes you're right CKLD. I have stopped the Vagifem. I eat live yog. I will start putting it on my outer lips too. I take a probiotic to help.
I had my first UTI and it was sent away after the first AB didn't work and so they treated it correctly and I felt the good effects of the right AB straightaway. Sadly though the ABs caused the thrush as again I have rarely had it in my 54 years.

I think Ovestin could be a good call. Will it help with the desire to wee that I sometimes get do you think? I am hoping that as it's my sensitive vulval tissues that seem to be my main problem it could help.
Go an appointment next week. I took one 10mg tablet of amitriptyline last night and slept so well. The effects of Vagifem are receding and it feels calmer again. I know people say Vagifem is mild but it seems to have great effect on me.
Thanks for your advice. Always welcome.  :)

Have you tried using alternatives, it might be sensitivity related to oestrogen absorption

As with Vagifem it requires a 2 week of every night loading then use as necessary.  I find that in the 24 hours following use my bladder is more sensitive but that does wear off.  Used at night most of the preparation is absorbed.  Very little leakage ;-).

Some people are sensitive to the fillers/packaging in medications which is why I suggest trying Ovestin.  It doesn't touch the outer lips at all and 4 me, does what it says on the tin ;-).

Take a list to the appt.?

Personally I can't use the oestrogen creams/vagifem the fillers in all of them irritate me , so I use the estring .

Tina I also have Pudendal issues.

Ovestin isnlike putting acid on my bits / but you may be fine.
