It's arrived

At the grand old age of 53 I have been waiting/knowing that it was on the way only to find that I was correct.

In the last few weeks I have found that I am suddenly flushing with body warmth, though not visible redness, and just have to take some layers off, to find that they are then going back on as quickly as they came off.

Nightimes too run from hot to hotter and I am wearing the 100% cotton nighties and undies and showering (coolish) when required.

I have had no children, and apart from rheumatoid arthritis which is drug controlled, am pretty healthy.

Any advice anyone would like to offer a newbie is going to be read. re-read and absorbed so.....look forward to hearing any personal offerings of what else I might be in for, any advice and anything that I might want to trying to make life easier, ie, what clothing best during the day?  Many layers or just one top layer that comes off and on.  Any offerings on diet/alcohol/exercise.....it will all be read.

Imagine you are looking back at your owne experiences - what advice would you give yourself - oh, and how long might it last - a friend of mine who had early menopause is still experiencing flushes and sweats now, 10 years on...

Thanks in advance and looking forward to reading any comments - gotta go now as my cardigan needs to be off....

How are your periods because changes there might give you an insight into where you are in the process. Everyone is different so no one can really say how long peri will last, I'm 4 or 5 years in and because I've now had a 90 day gap between periods I'm in late stage perimenopause.

Best to look at diet, make it as healthy as possible and keep exercise levels.  Blood tests to check iron, ferritin, vit d, hyroid might be a good idea too.

:welcomemm: ........ browse round.  Make notes.  Some ladies find that keeping a mood/food/symptom diary useful.  As oestrogen levels drop the body may become dry: eyes, deep in the ears, nostrils, vagina, skin ..... as well as sometimes causing some laxity of muscles = aches and pains.

Good advice about diet and exercise etc. as above.

Oh yes, the periods, started to be unpredictable from the age of 50 then stopped from 52 to 53 and a couple maybe July and November last year and nil since.

I had bloodtest a year ago and it was reported to be fine levels for my age but at that stage it was just because I asked.  Next time I am in for blood monitoring for arthritis I shall ask for another profile, thanks
