Exhausted.
« on: March 13, 2017, 11:17:47 AM »

Hi everyone,

Been feeling so exhausted recently not just tired but nodding off when I sit till and when hubbies driving I'm nearly asleep plus so tearful, even reading anything sad in the news sets me off.  Also for months by half ten in the morning I feel so hot and ill then get some sugar and feel so cold but feel better so went to GP today to ask for thyroid check.  I asked its only the TSH one though.  It's not like me I used to be like a little oxe years ago lifting things now I'm shattered.  What annoyed me was when I said to the GP maybe it's menopause anyway nothing else she said 'well it's a natural process' but I thought that doesn't mean to say that lack of hormones etc doesn't make us physically ill.  Mmm so I left feeling a useless idiot AGAIN.  :-\ X

sounds very normal Guinea girl!  Not sure how old you are but maybe another chat with a different doc or one of the meno specialists on this site.  Yes, it's natural but as somebody else said "so is arsenic"!  It can be debiltating for lots of ladies and quality of life is very important.

I never really thought I would take it (never really occurred to me) but the hot sweats and anxiety were a nightmare so on the tablets I went.  That was about 2 years ago (am 50).  Not to say I don't get hot, I do, but not very often at night.  The tearful thing I can totally relate to!

Good luck

Hello Guinea girl.

Your GP is being less than helpful but luckily there are some expert ladies on this site who can advise you and I'm sure they'll be along shortly.

The comment about a natural process makes me so angry. Childbirth is a natural process but fortunately we've moved on from leaving women to it and hoping for the best. In developing countries enough women and babies die every year to fill a jumbo jet.

Incidentally  an elderly neighbour just had minor surgery to reduce the size of  his prostate gland because needing to use the loo many times a night was disturbing his sleep and making him feel unwell. Turns out the prostate continues grow throughout life and often leads to these problems in older men. My neighbour is very pleased with the result,  feels a lot better and not once did anyone suggest he just had to put up with it all because his problems were due to a natural process!

Sorry rant over! You can tell I'm not having a good day!

Take care.

K.

Arsenic is natural  :-\

Crashing fatigue is 'normal' for some ladies.  Make sure that you eat/drink little and often so that the body doesn't need 'sugars'! otherwise you'll get ups and downs.

Thank you ladies, funny thing was GP was my age or little bit older so you'd think she'd understand.  Yeah I agree CLKD if I take a biscuit or drink out and have it by ten am I don't get the symptoms, I just rush about too much.  No dressing gown on over clothes at the moment, sometimes hubbie comes home and I'm in dressing gown  ::) to keep warm over clothes then ten minutes later it's come off again.   No fun is it.  I often think how some men would cope with all this. I had a similar comment from a female GP who was older than me - so maybe she had an easy time of it and obviously can't understand why some of us struggle. It did make me feel really rubbish about myself, so I know how you feel. But menopause fatigue is real for lots of us, so don't let her make you doubt yourself.

:) glad it's not just me then Binbon.  quite a few GPS seem to dismiss things easily at my surgery so I only go if I have to if I'm unduly worried about something, couldn't wait to get out of the room this morning.     I seem to blame everyone's troubles on myself at the moment and just get so upset by little things.  Doesn't help by lack of sleep though x

Did your GP offer you any blood tests Guinea Girl? I had HRT for a couple of months which stopped my hot flushes, but I still had disturbed sleep and felt really fatigued - having to nap every day. I had a whole range of blood tests to see if there was anything else underlying and was found to have low ferritin.

Hi Binbon

Thanks for your question. She is testing thyroid but I don't reckon much else.  Friday was the earliest so I will ask the nurse what tests as she does say if you ask.  The nap I can relate to.  I'll google ferritin I haven't a clue about that  :) x
