Any advice please
« on: March 08, 2017, 10:59:11 AM »

Hi I am 53 yrs old and posted a couple of times about my mirena coil. I had it fitted on 7th December last year and was also on Everol 50 patches. I have bled constantly since then, sometimes quite heavy, but always red in colour. (Obviously it wasn't as heavy as prior to Mirena and patches).
My GP suggested I stop the patches which I did last Friday and the bleeding stopped.
I now have pulsating pains in left groin area (ovaries??) and today my breasts are tender. I am also having a mini heatwave again. I've spoken to GP today and he said could be withdrawal from patches so give it a couple more days and speak to him again on Friday.
I know lots of people have had Mirena fitted so interested to know any side effects/problems or if what I am going through is "normal"
Thank you in advance

Hi Cathh3110 and welcome to the forum.

I don't have any personal experience of the Mirena so I am unable to offer any advise. But I am sure someone will be along later to help.

In the meantime you could try searching for Mirena coil you may find a little more information there.

I was going to suggest using the 'search' button here for Mirena to see which threads pop up.  Did you get replies to your previous queries  :-\

Is it possible the Evorel patches are a bit too strong, perhaps a lower dose might be better. :-\
I had several mirenas fitted over the years but didn't have this sort of problem.
Take pain killers for the groin pain & see what your doc has to say on Friday.
Sorry I can't be much more help.

Hi I had the mirena coil fitted many years ago. It worked great for me however when I had it removed I bleed very heavily for two days. My GP said this was normal. Something about it masking symptoms of menopause. Cant help with patches etc.
Good luck with getting it sorted

Thanks for all your replies. I saw my GP and have decided to see how it goes without a patch for the time being. The groin pains have now stopped so hoping all will calm down now - still no bleeding so that's a good thing  :)

I had a Mirena it was hell on earth. I could not tolerate the progesterone in it. Utrogestan is a wonderful progesterone so much better. A massive improvement. It may be the Mirena causing the issues?

Hi
So a quick update, I have been referred to a consultant (female) and she has been lovely. I have had a full pelvic ultrasound scan, which showed no fibroids or polyps, so I have had to have an endometrial biopsy and should get results in approx. 4 weeks. They also had trouble finding one of my ovaries, and I am very sore on the side they couldn't see.
On the same day as the biopsy the consultant removed the mirena and fitted a new one, just in case it was a faulty coil, I felt very sore!
I am now on 10mg Norethisterone for 6 weeks and the idea is that this should stop the bleeding. Then I have 2 weeks without the tablet and then go back to see consultant.
I really hope that this stops the bleeding, but so far, one week in, it hasn't stopped and I am very sore and cramping.
I think if this doesn't work the next step will be surgery.
Has anyone gone through a similar thing?
