Oh dear Tinkerbellj - well that's not very encouraging is it! Was this a routine visit - I mean I know some of us do tweak our doses but did you get anything useful at all?

That wasn't very helpful at all Tinkerbellj. I gave up going to my Meno consultant, because hospital kept cancelling appointments & giving me ones for a year on, which was useless. I have tweaked my dosage too, GP was happy enough & agreed about life quality etc.

Do you think tweaking will help you, or are you needing a complete overhaul of your HRT? Don't these doctors realise how fragile we are during Meno? One female GP I saw was appalled that I was still on HRT after 5 years. Needless to say, never went to her again. Lucky for her if she sailed through it all, most of us aren't so lucky. My friend was a lucky one! Grrrrr She's a good friend honest!

Maybe speak with a GP & see what they say. I'm lucky that most at my surgery are happy to let me tweak doses & let me stay on it after 20+ years.

it was my 6 month review it was three months but this was the first 6 month one. I was the one who initiated the gel etc as I could tweak it but other than the sweating nothing else is any better. still low mood extreme fatigue and muscle pain. And it doesnt fluculate like pmt its all the time.  I dont recognise myself. Dont want to speak to anyone and I am a really sociable person. She suggested I swap to 200mg evoral patches to try to knock my own hormones out but as she wrote it on the back of an envelope which my gp wont accept I now have to wait til the letter gets sent to the surgery. She also said maybe my orstrogen is too high. and this is her job all day every day.  I would be sacked if I did my job like that

What about a different meno clinic?  There are experts on this site which you need to pay to see but wouldn't that be worthwhile if you think you're stuck?  I agree, its very unhelpful when you are at such a low ebb.
My mum was on HRT for over 15 years and a friend of a friend still on it nearly 20 years later - she refuses to stop!  I won't be stopping any time soon either and am prepared to fight to the death if anybody tells me otherwise!  ;D
There is a solution for everybody, I am convinced of that - it might take a while to find it but it is out there.
Sending hugs

We r really limited here for consultants.  I tried to go private. ...its the same consultant!  But going to investigate more. I went privately to a psychiatrist cuz I thought I was going mad he said it has a physical cause I told the meno clinic that. SHe didnt even pause for a breath she said well take  antidepressants then. I would if I could but they make me ill. I am paying a  private councillor just to try to help me see a way thru this. women r 50 % of the population.  I can't be the first perimenopausal women she has come across!

Hello Tinkerbellj.

I bet you didn't know whether to laugh or cry when you heard what your consultant had to say! Makes me wonder what the definition of " expert " is for some people and as you say we are 50% of the population and anyone who isn't already dead will encounter the menopause.

As you can see I have nothing useful to add but you have my sympathy and sending hugs.

Take care.

K.

Have you tried any different types of anti depressants?  Just thinking that some work for some whilst others work for others - again, it's trial and error which is not really helping you.  You say AD's didn't work for you - and I get that as ones I had made me sick whilst my mum was great on them.  I take Escitalapran which is supposed to be kinder on the system than some of the others.

You don't need a GP referral to see one of the meno folk I don't think?  Just a chequebook!  I think it's about £100 for an initial consultation and then less for follow ups if required.

Hugs

Oh I really feel for you Tinkerbel :( If the experts do not know (or want to know!), how on earth must we know?!? No advice, just hugs.
