perimenopause
« on: January 16, 2017, 06:55:57 PM »

Hi my periods have been normal up until now. I finished my last period on 27 December 2016 but started bleeding again exactly 1 week later. It was light to start with but gradually got heavier (although not as heavy as what my periods have been). I've been bleeding for 2 weeks now and are worried. Has anyone else had this thanks

Hi, when I first started on the peri journey, I had periods every 2 weeks, totally draining, this went on for 9 months, various investigations, offered the minera coil, which I had fitted and then still bled ( to be expected ) for another 3 months before begging to be taken out. I should have persevered. However about 3-4 months later my periods went to 30 days and now every 2-3 months. Still worth getting your GP to check out, but I think you may find that the 'pattern' is different for everyone.

Also consider some iron supplement - one of the easy on the tummy ones....the extra bleeding can leave you flat out, and also believe it or not anaemia can lead to frequent periods.....it may well be menopause, but it could just be an erratic cycle....I was generally regular as clockwork, but did occasionally get 2 weekly bleeds. Equally it was one of my first signs of perimenopause, before I got hot flashes....try not to panic though!

Hi the second  early bled finally stopped on 17 Jan 17 and I've had nothing since. Is it normal to now stop bleeding for a while. Thank you

Hi ngibbons, there's really no such thing as normal in perimenopause. Early perimenopause is usually signalled by variable cycle length, for me that stage lasted about 3 years or so and I learned to take tampons with me everywhere I went. You could follow a completely different pattern though.

I know, it is horrendous. I spent my life with regular, normal periods and then they became incredibly heavy and then unpredictable. Last few for me were 12, 26, 25, 22, 85 and am now on day 42.  You could get an app for your phone, and keep a diary of symptoms - you might be able to tell if you're still ovulating which should help.

No problem, you could go to see your doctor if you're wanting reassurance, they might suggest blood tests

I don't think so - I've never really suffered from period pains though and have had stomach pain on and off for the past 9 months or so as I think my fibroids are pressing somewhere they shouldn't be. If you search for 'phantom periods' you'll find out it is quite common though.

How are you feeling otherwise?
