Author Topic: Excellent scan result on alternate days of continuous progesterone!  (Read 4312 times)

I am on Estradot 50mcg patch and continuous vaginal progesterone 100mg and vagifem twice a week. I am 2 years postmenopausal and 53 years of age. Initially I used the prometrium every night but did not take enough capsules on a recent holiday and decided to spread it out to every other night. When I did that, the ongoing period like cramping and backache settled down to just occasional now as oppose to every day. I decided to continue like that(a few months now) :) especially after reading on here this is common practice in Europe (France, Germany and Switzerland) to use progesterone eg. 3 times a week. I had a follow up scan from April this year a few days ago and my lining is only 3mm (was 4 in April) and fibroids stayed the same. So I am very pleased with the outcome.

Hey that's great news matildamouse! That's the thing - if you can have regular scans you can find out what is the right regime for you, and the lowest dose (of prog) you can get away with! I presume you do not have troublesome symptoms ( from the progesterone) on this dose eg headaches, tiredness, foggy head?

Hi MM, Thats really useful to hear. As I have mentioned before, I am doing the same and have been taking Utrogestan since september on alternate days. I will be having a scan in March, unless spotting occurs then it will be brought forward. I certainly do not get any symptoms really using U 100mg this way, no foggy head, tiredness etc (just a little headache initially).

Many thanks for posting.

Hi Rhiner. Please update us when you have had your scan in March; will be interesting to hear your results as well. On what dosage of Estrogen are you? If I remember correctly, you take the progesterone orally hey?

Thats very good to hear MM - especially as the 50mcg patch is delivering a decent amount of oestrogen (ie its not a very low dose).

Finding out where you can be scanned (if not offered it on the NHS) is a really good idea if you intend to try out any new regime with Utrogestan. As we're finding out from many women on the forum, the standard prescribed dosage can often be way too high, so creating unpleasant side effects needlessly.

Thank heavens for this forum as a place to share - we would all be so much more in the dark without it!

PS - are you both using the capsules orally?

I am in Australia Stellajane and my GP is happy to refer me for regular scans. I use the vaginal route but I think Rhiner uses the oral route...?

Yes this forum is a blessing!

Hi All,

Sorry just seen the posts - Yes I take the oral route and I am on 75mcg estrodot (and no ovaries, so not producing any of my own oestrogen). I keep getting a little period pain from time to time, but thats all so far.
Yep, will keep you posted.

Please could anyone help Peacegirl with her question regarding how often you should have scans when using progesterone on alternate days? (She has asked me, but I'm afraid I don't know!)

The only people likely to know are those under a specialist I would imagine. I know ordinary GPs in the NHS don't send most women routinely.  I would imagine once a year is plenty, though you might want to arrange the first one say 6 months after starting a new regime just for reassurance.

Hi Peacegirl - sorry I didn't answer your question but I was on holiday for a fortnight or so - at least you know now :)

Thanks Stella/Jenna am about to book a private one as it seems sensible to get a baseline reading? Am feeling normalish on my regime (still a bit sedated but hey ho) so I think I'd rather spend any spare cash on scans than mess with the regime and slide back into meno-hell! 😊

Hurdity, no apology needed, I don't expect to always get an answer but thanks anyway. Hope you had a good holiday? X
