Oestrogel and Uterogestan - how long did it take to work?
« on: December 14, 2016, 11:33:30 AM »

Nearly 3 months now and all I have is increased vaginal lubrication and possible side effects (depression, anxiety, stutter, increased tiredness).  Wondering whether to give up or if it will take a bit longer as I was severely low on hormones and had been off HRT for several years.  How long did it take you? What kicked in first/last?  I want my brain, energy and libido back!

Do remind us what dosage you are using?  Also are you using Utro everyday or for 12 days each month?
I am 60 now but when I started on Oestrogel and Utrogestan a couple of years ago, after a one year break from HRT, unfortunately it never really worked well for me - there was some reduction in meno symptoms but I got more side effects from the Utro than I had previously ever had with any other progesterones so I have abandoned HRT now.  I only use local oestrogen (Vagifem) for urogential atrophy.
I have accepted that I have to pace myself more, get plenty of rest and relaxation, eat well and take lots of brisk walks.  Strangely, since I  reduced my hectic life schedule down considerably, my libido has improved, even without systemic HRT - I think by prioritising my own health and wellbeing I am feeling more empowered and more sexy!!!!  DG x

I'm on Utro 100 daily, no break.  Plus 2 pumps of gel.  I had dropped to one due to fluid retention but put it back up to 2 thinking it would help the increasing depression.

Some of your symptoms may well be due to the continuous progesterone - especially the tiredness. Progesterone has a sedative effect which in extreme cases causes fatigue or even depression. This is why many of us who take it opt to remain on a cycle. Having said that - some women seem to love it :)

Sorry I can't comment on the gel - although I found patches to work very quickly and still do after nearly 10 years.
