Adrenaline can cause strange sensations too, 4 me it's like very hot water coursing through my veins.  I also get head 'zaps' from the meds. I take ……..

Thank you for all your lovely reassuring posts.

Linz - I never put the two together but since I have been really off have had the runs....... never thought it could be adrenalin :(

I will try the herbal vit but how ever many times I try I can't reduce my Oestrogel from 3 pumps. At 58 you would think reducing would not impact in this way. I am going to go out today, although scared because of this head thing.

Hi Warwick,

I understand about that head feeling as I have suffered this too. Last year I went around 5 weeks with it. It seemed to be there morning noon and night. Some felt like pressure on the top of my head. Other times it was like when I turned around my head had remained where it was and slowly trying to catch up with the rest of me. Almost like I had lost consciousness for a split second. It was awful. I was also feeling off balance or dizzy some of these times.
The doctor said it was over anxiety. I was having panic attacks about it, even when staying in the house. I became afraid all the time, no matter who was with me. I became scared to go out because of it. I would wake in the morning and have to go straight to the loo because I was so wound up with how I felt and what was happening. But I do think the doctor was right that it must have been anxiety and hormones as I wasn't given anything for it and it eventually went.

I have had bouts like that which last between 5 and 8 weeks three times now. The first was around 4 years ago and I have been in menopause almost 5 years. I don't think my hormones are settling very well and I am aware they keep changing.

I know this as I will have a few weeks of hot flushes (luckily not like many on here) then that symptom will go and I will have a few weeks of palpitations. They go and I will have tingling in my face and cold nose for several weeks. That goes and I am dizzy and off balance for several weeks. When that goes I will be back to the hot flushes  - and so it goes on. I also think my digestive reflux problem is hormonal. Problem is with this one is it is lasting longer than normal.

Some relaxation techniques might help you - Look for a Mindfulness course or even read up about it on the net. It will show you how to tap different areas of your face and hands. I did this and it does help.

It's so annoying and frustrating, especially when you realise it is the fear which makes you feel more dreadful than any physical symptom you may be having. It's a horrible feeling to be scared all the time. Good luck Warwick x

Great post Autumnlady

I'm post meno and although some symptoms have eased, and eased quite a lot when I think back, I'm still symptomatic , the anxious, racey heart dizzy feelings seem to be the most lingering

Hi all I am new to this forum today!
I am asking what if anything anyone has taken for these symptoms posted by Autumnlady regarding the head pressure and the dizzy/off balance palpitation stuff. I'm perimenopausal but still having erratic periods for the last 18 months or so but without many symptoms really until two weeks ago. I was in Sainsburys with my son when out of nowhere i felt off balance. I carried on walking round the shop thinking i was just a bit tired or something but I started to feel worse and more giddy and my heart started racing at which point I started to panic!!! My son has a  learning disability so I was trying to stay calm for his sake! Not easy. I managed to get to the car but the horrible panicky giddy feeling kept coming over me in waves and I called my sister to come and drive my car home.
I then felt pretty rubbish all week but managed to go to work just. then over the weekend I felt slightly better. Then on the Monday a period appeared. I sort of felt ok and ventured back to Sainsburys only to have the exact same thing to happen again and have felt rough all week and queesy on top and unable to go to work or any shops as it seems to trigger me feeling wobbly.I am 47 and would love to hear if antidepresants could help these symptoms or do I relent and go HRT route which I worry about taking. The nurse offered me HRT on Monday but I said I need to think about it first. Sorry for rambling . :o

Staffygirl- Welcome! I can say HRT helped me with the dizzy/off balance and palpitation stuff, but in the year since I started it hasn't brought me back to my normal self. I'm curious about the antidepressants as well, as HRT has improved a whole bunch of things I didn't yet recognize as problems, but seems to be exacerbating mood swings for me.

Hi Staffygirl

My dizzy/off balance started in peri. Always really bad just before my period. HRT has heped but still there with anxiety in the mix!

Doctors don't seem to recognise it as a meno symptom. I was told for many years it was related to Ladrinthitis.........mmm

Hi Ladies
Thanks for your replies. I'm going back to nurse today as I feel like rubbish! Still cant decide what to take if anything. I guess whatever I take will take a while to have an effect. Its just so frustrating and frightening at the same time as I went back to work today and thought I was gonna faint!!! Not good as I work in a school. Have printed off posts relevant to this awful set of symptoms so she can see how I feel.
Thanks again its good to be able to ask advice here  ::)

Hi Staffygirl

 :welcomemm:

Sorry to hear about your giddy feeling - I presume you are being checked out for other conditions like Menieres, labyrynthitis etc?

Are your periods irregular ie are you going for longer than 4 weeks between them, quite often? If your symptoms are due to menopause then it will be the dramatic hormone fluctuations causing this I imagine and anti-depressants most certainly are not the first line of treatment and the medical profession should recommend HRT nowadays.

HRT will even out the oestrogen dips that occur at the end of the cycle but some women still experience mood swings even on HRT - if in very early peri-menopause. One option is one of the newer contraceptive pills which contain the same oestrogen as in HRT - not the usual stronger synthetic ones of most CCP types. The two available are called Qlaira and Zoely - and they will definitely control your cycle - but they do contain fairly high doses of progestogens so you need to be OK with these.

What was the nurse going to offer you? If you do decide on HRT then do go for one of the tablets that is best tolerated - Femoston or else a patch such as Femseven. Do your research first because she may well offer you the cheapest which are usually Prempak and Elleste.

hi I have had this dizzy/lighted feeling on and off for years and am now convinced its hormonal. I am four weeks on hrt this Saturday( estradot) patch, had hysterectomy 4 years ago, still have anxiety but flushes are easing, just wondering how long it takes for hrt  to really work its magic, oh and I am suffering from general aches and pains too, mostly arms and neck, not sure if anxiety or meno
