I'm scared
« on: November 25, 2016, 12:46:48 PM »

Hello All
I'm scared.
I have a history of urticaria and have been advised by immunologist to avoid oestrogen.
But I really want to try it.
I eat all the foods that are supposedly high in natural oestrogen and have no reactions.
I finally got an NHS meno clinic appointment for 29th December.
Advice please if anyone thinks they can help :'(

What you scared about?

Make a list of symptoms/food/mood.  Decide what you want to ease first.  I'm sure someone with HRT knowledge will be along soon.

Hi CLKD
My fear is that if they agree to let me try it might cause anaphylaxis.
I always have epi pens, antihistamines and steroids with me at all times but it's no fun when you swell up.
I can only try if they agree to give it to me and see what happens.
I just wondered if anyone else had this dilemma.

What does your GP suggest?  Could you see a Menopause Specilaist?

GP said I'm not not giving it to you I'd end up in court!!
They refer me to gynaecologist lining who didn't cover hrt.
I complained to PALS and they managed to get me the earliest meno clinic appointment on 29th December .

Hi Autumn

I get anaphylaxis from latex and exotic fruits so I understand why you're scared

I don't know what to advise, my head says don't try it but I understand if you're suffering why you want to try it

I know if bananas etc were hrt the doc would never entertain giving them to me so they are safeguarding themselves, and you

But that leaves you suffering, I wonder if there's another way for you ?

Are you post meno ?

Tibolone doesn't contain oestrogen but either converts to it or mimics it (still haven't fully understood it) so if you're post meno that may be an option ?

Once you're 12 months period free you'd be eligible to try that, as long as it's safe x

So what did the GP suggest instead?  :-\

Sometimes people 'grow out' of allergies.  I am aware that some children have been given tiny doses of the allergens which they suffer from with good result - i.e. cat dander.  Would it be worth while getting an appt. with a Clinic that does similar treatment?

Hello CLKD
The urticaria/hives started in 1998 I have had all the allergy tests, scratch tests, seen urticaria specialists, dermatologists, endocrinologists and immunologists.
They all conclude I have idiopathic urticaria/angieoedema with anaphylaxis.
My whole body has swollen up in the past including my airways.
If I started swelling in the past I could never get an appointment with the doctors so if the antihistamines didn't work I would use the epipens and call an ambulance so they could administer steroids at hospital.
The allergy specialist agreed I should carry steroids at all times as they said in many cases they never identify the cause.

I've never been offered the chance to desensitise

Each of my reactions have got worse each time and when you walk through A&E and say anaphylaxis you are hurried straight to resus and given the adrenaline and steroid injection, they take details from whoever I'm with whilst stabilising me, maybe mild allergies can be desensitised but I think when it gets to anaphylaxis there's no chance of it
