Ok! Enough! These extra few pounds have to go!
« on: November 21, 2016, 07:29:49 AM »

So I'm going to do the three day military diet to try and shift them.

Ladies I beg your indulgence.

I'm not expecting miracles but if I can just kick start my metabolism it'll do me the world of good.

I have no allergies, I'm not on any meds bar Tibolone,  I don't suffer from dizzy spells or anything,  hence I think it's ok to give it a punt.

I'm not advocating this to anyone else but I'm more likely to stick to the plan if I make my intentions public. So feel free to ignore me :)

Day 1 weight 12'6.

Wish me luck.

Is it this one?

Day 1 and 2 sound okay, but day 3 would break me. Seems odd to have so much ice cream!

Good Lord no, that'd kill me. It's this one.  I know it says British Heart foundation but also known as the three day military as well.

Loads of my friends have done this and as long as they keep doing it every 2 weeks they keep the weight off but sadly all bar one has now  put whatever they lost back on because its not sustainable long term.  I think if you are doing it for a wedding or something then its great way to drop half a stone very quickly but you cannot stay on the diet as its too extreme.  The 5/2 diet might be a better option long term???

I have lost 3 stones in 2 years but by the slowly slowly method. NEver more than one and half pounds a week and I have found because I have just reduced how much I eat with the occasional treat meal out I can maintain my weight loss.

For me the easiest bit is losing the weight and the hardest is keeping it off!

In my experience, the only way to keep weight under control is to cut out as much sugar as possible and eat a lot less permanently.  Getting enough exercise is also vital  - plenty of brisk walking is great. Short sharp diets can just muck up your metabolism.
The crash diet may be a good kickstart but you can never go back to eating the way you did before.  DG x

Yeah, probably need more than 3 days to make a difference. Walking and avoiding sugar certainly seems the wisest approach, as well as looking at portion sizes. The calories on that diet probably aren't much less than I normally consume to be honest, I just eat more fruit. I think it helps to live alone and not have snacks to tempt me.

It's just a case of input/ output.

We don't need as much food as we age but we need more exercise.

Just cut the carbs and the weight will come off quickly.....I lost over a stone and I can't exercise.  Mine came off slowly but if you can Excercise as well you will be fine.

Have a browse of the various exercise threads here.  We have a treadmill - but don't use it  :sigh: - for me it's lack of enthusiasm.  I do lots of gardening though, so fresh air, VitD and exercise in one go!

The most important meal of the day is breakfast.  Himself eats porridge which maintains him until lunch-time, I have a muesli mix which has made a difference so that I don't snack as much: B4 it was two rounds of toast.

How much home cooking do you do, i.e. meals from scratch?

I don't know anything about this plan, but IMO you need to find something that gives you a slow and steady loss and is sustainable long term. Diets that make claims of huge weight loss very quickly are at worst unhealthy and at best you are just losing water weight that will return almost immediately. You need to aim for roughly 1-2kg (about 2-4 pounds) loss per month.

I've lost 10kg (about 20 pounds) this year on Weight Watchers and it's extremely easy to follow because you still eat all your normal foods, but the points system encourages you to make the right choices of low sugar and low saturated fats. Don't fall into the trap of thinking you need to cut out carbs though. Good carbs are essential.

I still want to lose another 5kg, but I'm just maintaining at the moment because of the Christmas season coming up, but I'll crank things up in the new year.

The advice to it gradually is important. I cut out sugar as much as is possible following advice. The weight loss was too quick 11/2 stones on 2 months. My reward was lower glucose levels, down a dress size and yippeedoda gall stones! So eat healthily, smaller portions and yes cut down sugar, particularly refined, but do it slower than me, not so rigid.

We cook from scratch  90% of the time. A takeaway is a rarity.

Over the next three days I hope to manage my sweet tooth ie  I like sugar in my tea  and cheap  sweet wines like lambrini as opposed to cakes,  biscuits and sweets.

I just want to shift another fee  pounds and then. I'll be able start working out again without my knees feeling like they're going to snap.

Anyway day 2 and the scales say 12'4.

Motivation! It's what will get you there. I still get a pleasant shock when I see myself in the mirror. I do look far better in my clothes now. Pricey though! Had to buy new clothes. Still retail therapy is good!
