I wanted to check if its possible to have menopausal symptoms 11 years after  hysterectomy and oophorectomy. I have been on Evorel patches all this time which had kept menopausal symptoms away. I am now 46 and for last few months appear to be having menopausal symptoms. I have seen gp who said I cant be and has taken lots of blood tests (yet to have results), but I think its menopause some how. I have read that after hysterectomy your adrenal glands and fatty tissue can make oestrogen, so could this be my natural time for my body to stop this too???

   I am sure that someone will be along with sensible info.  Good that you were given some form of HRT to protect bones and heart.  Did you have bone scans at all?

Thanks CLKD. No I havent had bone scans. I was just told I'd need HRT till I was 50 to help stop osteoporosis. Hoping others may have had experiences like mine...

You can continue HRT way further than 50 now, new Guidelines give advice to GPs.  If it ain't broke etc.?!

I'm a surgical menopause lady too (almost 2 years post surgery). There are a few of us here and you'll find our posts dotted about, but I hope we'll soon be given our own stickied thread as I've asked the moderator for before as so many of us are now joining MM.

I have to say that I do spend quite a bit of time over at the Hystersisters forum too as their situations are exclusively the same as ours, and yes - what you are experiencing HAS been discussed over there! It's well worth popping over and joining in as there are a good few members from the UK too.

As we get older, our adrenal output is not quite as efficient in covering any hormone shortfall that our HRT may not be addressing as when we were younger so it could very well be that you will need to address a shortfall that is now becoming apparent  by changing or increasing your HRT. A lot of ladies over at HS find this - they can coast along quite happily in balance for a good while and then things start to veer off track. Other things that can affect balance are stress, change of diet, weight loss or gain and increased or decreased physical activity.

Do you have a menopause clinic where you are? It would be good to perhaps check your circulating estradiol levels to see where you are at the moment too. Hope this helps a wee bit!

Hopefully my gp knows this now, he tried to stop my hrt last year as he said I'd been on it too long.

I've been feeling pretty awful, but all possible menopause stuff, ridiculously tired, difficulty sleeping, overheating, dizzy, tearful , grumpy, v hungry....! Fun times!

That's great to hear, my instinct says this is the issue. I'll join the other site as you suggest. I'll wait for blood results and if all ok, I'll have to convince my go to try upping my hrt .

I don't know about a menopause clinic, but will have a Google.

Your doc is well out of order there! As you yourself know you should be on HRT until at least the natural average age of menopause which is around 51. In fact the years of taking HRT from the point of view of known risks - do not even start to count until this age - because you are just taking what your body should have been making naturally! Look at the info on this site and you will see that in any case the benefits are thought to outweigh the risks if you are getting symptoms up until 60:

You haven't said what dose Evorel patches you are on but if it is 50 mcg then this is only a medium dose so no wonder you are experiencing symptoms? If an increase is agreed to and you are only on 50 mcg - and you really are entitled to this then I would suggest changing to Estradot as they are much smaller so easier to stick a higher dose patch on!

The other thing is that as you age anyway, testosterone production declines and this would also have been dramatic immediately following your operation. T deficiency manifest as low libido, tiredness especially after exercise and perhaps depression or general lethargy in extreme cases.

Thank you so much for all the information, it's really good to be able to be well informed for next gp appointment.
 I will look through it all and let you know how Im getting on.
I have been on Evorel 75 patch for 10 years. My stomach wouldn't tolerate tablets.

I second the Estradot patches as recommended by Hurdity. I chose these as she has had good results for a long time, and I wanted something reliable and comfortable and these really fit the bill. They are very small and adhere very well indeed, so worth asking for these too!
