I agree coldethyl - it was a year before everything felt that it was back where it should be. :o

I hope that your treatment and recovery are going well.

Hospital rang and I'm carrying mrsa so cant have op until clear, I have to go tomorrow to speak to the nurse who took the swabs and discuss eradication treatment.
To say I'm upset is an understatement

So sorry to hear this WTD, nothing is easy at this time in our lives is it? It sometimes feels like we're being tested beyond our limits. I hope your swabs are soon clear and things can proceed.

Aw bless you.  Hopefully then you'll be all good to go.  Not helping you right now but at least you'll be all clear for your op

Thanks everyone, I'm resigned to the fact there's nothing I can do except be thorough with the treatment and get the all clear xx

We all carry MRSA and Salmonella, it's part of our 'natural' bugs - when the immune system gets 'low' then it can be triggered so that it over-rides our bodies.  At least it has been caught!  My Dad had it 3 times whilst in and out of Hospital due to bad hygiene probably, it was kept under the carpet in those days  >:(.

My mum developed MRSA when she was already poorly, sadly, but it's not true that we all carry it. Some people do and they pass it on to others unknowingly. It doesn't pose problems within a healthy person so it's difficult to spot. Since the screening programme has been carried out infection rates are down. The thing I found difficult to cope with is that it didn't appear on my mum's death certificate as a cause of death. There must be thousands of people who die from hospital acquired infections which aren't mentioned or logged anywhere.

Having worked in occupational pension schemes for over 26 years, and having seen many, many death certificates over the years, I think it's sad the don't list mrsa as a cause of death. Whether it be direct or indirect.

In respect of recovery of bowel surgery, Husband had 30cm of sigmoid colon removed last year. The recovery was very very tough - he was 40 at the time. He was automatically signed off for 16 weeks post op. You have to take it very carefully.

Nor do you see many Death Certificates with 'old age' as the cause of death.   With Winter weather approaching and various 'bugs' doing the rounds, I expect that much elective surgery will be put off until the New Year.
