Hi Tempest - I'm in Edinburgh and yes I do see a meno consultant here but the last time I saw her about my variable uptake of transdermals she said, and i quote, "in the old days, we put women like you on implants but we cant get you off them, if you're willing to have a mirena, you can fiddle with your oestrogen dose as much as you like".

Well I've now got a mirena and that's brought some issues of its own.

I'm also a Studd patient so may trot down there as a last resort but I feel I shouldn't have to pay through the nose for it.

Delivery route is key, you're so right!

Blimey!!! Do we see the same Consultant?!?  ;) :) It just sounds like her manner - maybe it's just a Consultant thing.  ;D Mine is actually very lovely......(in case she's reading - I know they pop by from time to time)!

Implants ARE definitely available here - at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary Menopause Clinic and also at Stobhill ( under Dr.Perrera, I believe). You could certainly ask for a tertiary referral to the GRI outwith of your health board if you're really struggling - there is no harm in making  the request! You really shouldn't have to go over to Studd, I'm not sure that he has anything more to offer that you should be getting via the NHS (it's usually all about the 3 pumps of estrogel and utrogestan thing as I understand)! :o

I think with implants you just have to be careful about tachyphylaxis  - which Studd talks about on his website whereby women sometimes get "supra-physiological" oestrogen levels - ie higher than normally occur - so that the oestrogen ceases to have effect and symptoms return. http://www.studd.co.uk/implants.php . Yes if I was able to see a good meno consultant in Edinburgh on NHS I wouldn't be going anywhere else!

Very true Hurdity re: Tachyphylaxis! However, they are very aware of this in the clinic's that do use them within the NHS and implants are not inserted more frequently than 6 months under ANY circumstances. This is where a lot of the problems arose previously - too frequent insertion and too high of an implant dose with minimal monitoring of levels prior to re-insertion. They really are on the ball with it now! I checked at my last appointment last week. :)

Thanks Tempest. I've recently moved to Sandrena gel and for some reason seem to be absorbing that more readily do will continue with that.  I'd rather not have implants as, like the mirena, if you run into problems it's not easy to reverse or address the problems.

Very true, Murph! I have to admit that this is what put me off (given my track record, this is hardly surprising)! I wonder if it's because the Sandrena is more concentrated as Hurdity has mentioned before, and this is why you're having better luck? I'm not going to ressurect an old discussion I started, but in my own experience I am SURE that the Oestrodose I was dispensed IS different to the previous Estrogel I used to get - my levels were certainly much lower on this and I didn't get so much of the 'bullfrog effect' of swelling on the Estrogel. May just be something else random going on of course, but it makes me wonder...... ??? Hmm!! I hope things improve and stabilise for you on the Sandrena/Mirena combo - remember to give us updates so we know how you're doing! xxxx

Hi Suzanne,

Thank you so much for the reassurance (along with other ladies too) reading your posts, I do appear to have the side effects you describe, Yesterday afternoon/evening was good. Woke this morning with hip pain and a little nausea. I think the spacey dizzy feeling is worse for me as I have a phobia about fainting in public - which caused my agrophobia  >:(

I will work on other issues when hormones settle. Friday is the start of my second month. Can you remember when you turned a cornet (how many weeks)

This group is amazing, I lost my friends when I had to give up work due to anxiety/panic so have no support.

Thanks sooooo much you lovely ladies  :-*

Tempest - how you doing ??

Morning, ladies!

Ugh! Today has started out rather tough, but I can't say I wasn't expecting it! Day 3 - feeling anxious this morning and it was a bit of a white knuckle ride first thing! Hoping this is just the Estrogel leaving my system and therefore levels dropping. Feel intermittently dizzy - I'm ok with that as lived with this on and off since my BSO surgery. Also feel rather nauseous and slight headache. Sleep last night was very interrupted, with 'warm' moments but not bed soakingy so. Hope this is as bad as it gets in that area! I'm taking my tablet at 9.30 am each morning.

On a plus, don't feel anywhere near like freaking out of my skin like I did on Estradiol - we'll see! Hope this continues as it has been pure hell. I couldn't bear if things were to head in that direction again!

Still hunkering down, relaxing, staying warm and well hydrated. I'm not planning on doing anything much for at least the next 2 weeks or so!

Hope you're all doing ok! xxxx

Ah they are symptoms our other ladies have been reporting aren't they ? You're still sounding positive so that is good.  Ride this out calmly like you're doing Tempest, you're doing great.

We're only a click away xxxx

They are Annie, it's true! That's what reassured me so much. Thank goodness we're all here reassuring each other as this is a unique treatment with unique possible side effects on start up and I think most of us are switching from one treatment to another, so that is an added factor. At least we know we're 'normal'. I'm not panicking too much. :)

I've just cancelled some non essential appointments for tomorrow, and Hubby has his 'weekend' Tuesday and Wednesday so it will be great to have his company.

My concentration is coming and going a bit at the moment and there are a couple of ladies I'd like to send PM replies to, so please bear with me if it takes me a little while to reply. A couple of you have reached out to me and I'd like to say in the meantime that it's very much appreciated. Thank you! :thankyou:

Do EVERYTHING in your own time while you are settling in.  There's no rush to anything for you.

Tell yourself these symptoms will pass, at least it means it's getting in your system xxxxx
