The worst night ever.
« on: November 05, 2016, 03:09:43 PM »

Forgive me if I ramble, I didn't get a minutes sleep last night.
I went to bed at midnight, tired. Almost as soon as I relaxed into bed my joints and muscles began getting tight/tense/needing to stretch etc. At 1am I took paracetamol, ibuprofen, and 2 tramadol.
By 2am my joints were fine, however I was now suffering from intense overheating.
I don't have the heating on overnight and my house is old and draughty, my nose was freezing but I was burning up and getting a little sweaty on my chest and back of my neck. I pushed back the duvet, closed my eyes and tried to sleep. I couldn't I was wide awake behind my eyelids. I kept getting the most bizarre and obscure thoughts and images, all totally random and unexplainable.
3am arrived, I am now itching all over on and off. Then I realise my heart (pulse) is racing, I have this weird feeling, almost like I am over excited or scared, but the "butterflies" weren't in my tummy they were in my chest...it's a horrible feeling, I felt like I was all wound up/tense/excited/scared....this stayed all night.
4am, 5am, 6am, 7am, 8am. I was awake the entire time.
9am I gave up and wandered downstairs like the living dead.
The temperature was 15c inside (I'd kept the heating off) and I was absolutely boiling within 10mins of getting up.
I've been getting the heart racing/excited feeling in my chest on and off throughout the day.
I managed to doze off for 40mins at 12.30pm and am now sat here in a kind of out of body trance like state.

This is the first night I have had absolute zero sleep. I've had a few nights being awake between 1am and 5am.
The heart/chest thing is new also.
I'm still too hot, yet my nose and fingertips are freezing.
I feel drunk on the lack of sleep.

My mother was 51 when she began peri....I am 47 and am feeling rather deprived! I made a post in the introduction thingy with more background info and am off to the docs on Tuesday, my GP is male....am I doomed?

Help....please!

Thanks in advance x

Hello honey.
I'm no one that has all the answers but in peri I am definitely hotter... .the air I breathe can be freezing but I'm boiling hot- u have the anxiety in the chest too. Sleep deprivation and peri symptoms can make some days very much h harder.
Today I send you hugs ....

Not doomed at all but taking all those MEDS!!!!  :-\

Tramdol maybe gave you strange thought patterns?  It can be very powerful.

You may have restless leg syndrome.  For me it's a lack of potassium and I have found by Trial and Error, that eating 2-3 bananas daily eases symptoms.  I am aware of the sensations in my legs all the while but as soon as I get into bed, it starts.  I have tried sleeping with legs elevated which helped, Nurofen certainly eases symptoms but it is cured by bananas.  Some patients have a lack of magnesium which gives similar sensations.

Are you cold to touch?  I often tell Himself that my feet feel cold but apparently they are 'normal' temperature  ::).  There is a condition - Raynaud's disease - which should be considered.  Probably more likely to be HORMONES  >:(  ::).

Browse round!  How is your diet generally?

It sounds to me like you are really overtired and this is why the feelings have continued into the day. I have felt like this before and it's an absolute nightmare because all you want is to go to sleep. I have had that awful mix of adrenalin and anxiety come up in my chest and it's scary when you have no control over it. I do think this symptom is hormonal and a kind of hot flush. All the random thoughts and images could well be because you was so tired. I have had this.

I also wonder if you have a touch of a virus with some of your aching and hot neck symptoms, MableB. Though it could be hormones.

I hope you manage to get some sleep tonight x

Aching is more likely to be tension: not sleeping, not laying properly, anxiety ……. when I come out of a panic attack I ache all over - inside and out  :sigh:

Thanks everyone for your replies, so nice to know I am not alone, and so pleased I found this website.

Re "all those meds!!!!" it's fine and all well controlled. Tramadol doesn't give me strange thought patterns, but that combo is good for stopping the bad muscle joint thing.

I don't have restless legs or Raynauds thank goodness. Yaay, two things I don't have!

The joint/muscle tension has been a recent development over the last year ish, having had arthritis etc ruled out I think it may be a peri thing as I noticed a post on here about similar experiences.

Re blood tests, I am off to the Docs on Tuesday so will discuss all this with him, thank you for the heads up.

As the day has gone on I am starting to feel more "normal?" well normal for me anyway! I don't feel at all unwell or "virusy" that's my new word!

It's a bit of a thing this peri malarkey, I will not be beaten though, onwards and upwards!

Why not try taking your Tramadol an hour before you go to bed, it might work better for you that way. 💤💤

Hello MabelBabel.

I've posted on your other thread but also wanted to send hugs and sympathy, sleepless nights are a challenge!

A male doctor once told me that I should exhaust myself during the day as being very tired would guarantee a good nights sleep. He clearly didn't really understand the way the menopause works and I decided not to consult him again!

Hopefully this phase will be a short one and you will feel better soon.

Take care.

Thank you Kathleen x

What that Doctor said to you is disgraceful! My surgery only has male Doctors, mine is fine, but he's young, so not sure he'll have much experience. There is a female Nurse Practitioner so if I don't have much confidence in my Doctors consult I will see her.

So Educate your young GP so that in years to come he'll have Knowldege  ;)

When I'm tired I usually sleep.  Unless my legs ache or my brain is wired.  Or if I'm wide awake even though I've been busy.

Hopefully tonight will be better 4U as you have shared ;-).

I'm so sorry you're feeling this way. You are not alone and you are definitely not doomed.

I can relate to so much of what you said. My worst symptom was those incredibly long and lonely nights of absolutely no sleep at all.

The positive message I will give you though is that HRT literally saved my life. I honestly don't think I would still be here without it.

Hang in there a few more days. Hopefully your doctor will sort it out for you.

Dana - Thank you x. I think I can handle everything except the sleeplessness, that will be my priority for the Dr.
CKD - Yes, thank you. I wasn't going to miss a 2nd night. And it was wonderful!

Suspicious goings on today, at midday, off to the loo I go, I had very pale pink on wiping, at 3pm it was clear, at 5pm slight brown on wiping. Is this what is termed as spotting or is that more obvious?
Mild cramping too. Starting to feel tired.
I've begun getting into slightly obsessive habits too. I always check the tissue and have now started to use a cotton bud for, ahem, "further and deeper investigations."

STOP the prodding.  That could be why there is a pink stain!!!!  Take some pain relief for the cramping and don't look until morning!

I had that.  Accepted it as 'normal' for my time of Life  ::).  Eventually the periods went away.
