Annie, yes maybe the higher dosage of Tibolone is the answer.

Hurdity, I understand your concern but we don't know how much testosterone is created from taking Tibolone,  very little I suspect. But what we do know is that  women would have to take more than the pea sized amount that they do,  to suffer the androgenic affects we keep getting warned about.

I think how your body 'converts' Tibolone varies considerably from woman to woman, and from week to week.  From the chat with my GP today my massive increase in libido in the 1st month is quite unusual, especially as I've not had any androgenic effects with it.

Now whether this is because I hadn't been on any hormonal contraception since my early 20's, and the previous HRT was only taken for a relatively short time a couple of years ago, who knows.

Much as I was thinking I'd like to try some extra testosterone, the risk at the moment of it 'screwing up the good of the Tibolone' for me isn't worth it, as I think I'm probably 95-97% of where I want to be and how I want to feel.  If things change I know I can return to discuss it further.

I'll keep updating the diary as the months roll on though.

wow.... tempted to try Tibolone again after reading these posts.

Mojo - how long have you been taking Tibolone?? and may I ask which other HRT did you try with no success.

I used Tibulone for 20 days with some positives but VA became unbearable. Was never offered Vagifem........ so I am going to chat with my GP next week.

Hi Warwick,

I have been on testosterone gel for 7 weeks and tribone for 4 weeks, I was on cerelle the mini pill before to stabilise the prosterone my body makes, as when the prosterone rises it sends me mad! I also take 10 mg of citropram. I have tried Estelle hrt this was awful, so went I went to the specialist he recommended this to try as it works differently from other hrt. I am due blood tests next week and am due back at the specialist who corresponds with my fantastic doctor, so I have now the best support ever after years.

Thanks Mojo - really interesting post esp regarding progesterone. On both occasions when I got pregnant the first few weeks I suffered erratic, hyperactive and always wondered why?? I think it may have been a rise in progesterone.

This hormone game is such a misery for people who are hyper sensitive.

Tibolone acts in two ways - it is converted to a substance (amongst others) which acts like testosterone ie binds to testosterone receptors, but it also reduced SHBG (Sex Hormone Binding Globulin) and therefore raises the level of free testosterone which is the biologically active part. Therefore Tibolone alone increases testosterone levels as well as having an effect in its own right.

I would still be very wary of taking Tibolone and using testosterone gel at the same time, especially in the absence of oestrogen. If this is a specialist gynae advising and you (Mojo) are being monitored closely with all levels being tested then presumably you can rest assured that this treatment may be OK. Are you in UK by the way?

To be honest hurdity, I don't care how and what is produced but after suffering now for 5 years and finally feeling alive again,  I am not to concerned about the mixture as all the other correct medication has never worked for me and yes my specialist in the U.K. Has recommended it and as I am at the lowest of all time I am prepared to listen and take what he recommends as he is the professional and it works for me and if I can share this with other ladies who are maybe like myself and the normal medication isn't t right for them then try it the way I do and if they can feel alive again then it is worth sharing this with them!
Ps are you a doctor then?

We're all different and do process things differently whether it be meds, alcohol sugar you name it. I actually think I need testosterone as well as Tibolone,  which has only sorted the flushes and sweats.

I've been described as androgynous all my life and wouldn't be surprised if I had higher T levels than the average woman anyway.

Have just sat and read all of this thread. 😊 Find this forum when researching the patch my doctor had put me on. Evorel 50.

It's the lovely ladies here who put me on to testosterone and its positive affects.

I work in women's health and spoke to one of the consultants so went to my GP after a lot of reading here and chatting with him.

My GP, a woman, is lovely I explained lack of libido and discussion with consult and asked for Testim. She gave me a box! 😀

I am now on evorel 100 and a small amount of Testim. A tube has lasted at least three weeks. Prior to hysterectomy I had severe pcos and cystic acne from being testosterone dominant. The thought of having acne like that again is awful.

The combination of evorel and Testim is having positive effects. 😃 I feel the best I have in years.

Good morning ladies

This is my update on testogel and tibilone. Went to my specialist last Friday and although I am feeling good my testrotrone levels have not increased in the eight weeks of me taking testogel, it is still 0.1.   So we have increased the gel to bit bigger pea size to three/ four times a week, so rest assured that it doesn't always increase that quickly, which is good to know as I was worried about it having horrible side effects but obviously I have a long way to go before I have to worry about growing a beard haha, although I am so pleased to report the hair on my head is thicker, lush looking and is growing at a faster rate than it has for years.
Onwards and upwards I am pleased to report, follow up appointment in 12 weeks time

That's brilliant mojo - I don't take Tibolone but having exhausted almost every other avenue the HRT, I'm watching these threads with interest. Please keep posting so we know your 'journey'.

Well done Mojo, it's good to read of your experience.

I've been a week on a daily blob of T gel and  2.5mg of Tibolone and have nothing adverse to report either. I seem to have a lot of energy even if I feel tired, if that makes sense.

No deep voice, hairs on stomach where I rub the gel but I have had quite vivid dreams of a naughty nature if you get my drift.  ;)

Thank you so much for sharing, Mojo and Blakeygray! I'm watching your stories with interest as I'm a BSO lady and if I don't see the improvements I'm hoping for (mainly energy and well-being, but libido would be fantastic) on Tibolone only I will enquire about adding Testosterone gel at my review in May (ANY improvement on Tibolone I would be grateful for though, to be honest)!

If you don't mind my asking, are both of your Consultants NHS who recommended adding in the T? Thank you!
