Hi Tempest, I wasn't referred to a consultant and there  isn't a menopause clinic where I live. I've just had my gp, who while she is  quite sympathetic, won't consider anything not listed in her medical dictionary.

I did my own research plus used testimonies and info  from women on here. I had to beg for Tibolone (she only relented after I gave her reports  from NICE and the British Menopause  Society). And I bought the testogel myself in Spain.

While I am pleased to read about success stories ( we all are!) I don't think anyone reading this should think it's OK to self-medicate without supervision, and especially not with buying Testosterone online - particularly if you can't have levels monitored and are using Tibolone too!

I understand your personal reasons Blakeygray and sounds like you have a difficult time with your GP surgery! As you say maybe you naturally have higher T levels than other women, but others should go through their GP/menopause specialist to ensure adequate monitoring!

Tempest - it would be interesting to hear what your consultant says at your review if you ask about this (but I know this is some time away!).

Hi tempest

I go To a private consultant recomended by my doctor as my doctor is happy prescribing gel now that the specialist has recomended it. But said that the practice was not prepared to give me something of licence without a specialist opinion. But it was no where as expensive as I thought going private, wish I had done it sooner.

I bought Testogel over the counter from a pharmacy.  I had no choice because even though my gp agreed that I might benefit from taking testosterone, she refused to prescribe me any because it's 'not licensed for women'.

After years of suffering both mentally and physically and my long term relationship being almost wrecked beyond repair, I owe it to myself to do what I can to make myself feel  better again.

My actions are my own,  no one forced me and I am not advocating that anyone do as I've done. But for a gp. (not just mine but plenty others) to play God in this way is cruel, especially when medical guidelines dictate otherwise.

"The effects of tibolone on breast and endometrium is affected by the expression on aromatase in these tissues. Tibolone lowers SHBG levels in blood and this leads to an increase in free testosterone. In normal breast and endometrium this enzyme is not expressed and testosterone acts solely through its receptor. However in the presence of pathology aromatase expression can be detectedin these lesions, affecting therefore the response to testosterone. Under these circumstance free testosterone is converted to estradiol locally in the lesions where it can exert a growth promoting effect. This explains the different effects of tibolone in the normal versus the cancerous breast and also in the endometrium. The stimulatory effects of tibolone and testosterone on endometrial polyps and adenomyosis are consequence of the presence of aromatase in these lesions, which transform free testosterone into estradiol."

Hi Peri, I'm happy to report that finally I think everything's ok.  Tomorrow is 2weeks since I started with testogel and  as I'm on Tibolone I'm conscious  of taking too much; I'm still on my first sachet.

I feel energised and like my body has gone back 20 yrs.

I agree with everything Hurdity has said and am sad that I've had no option but to follow my own route. But I will tell my gp and hope she doesn't refuse me to provide a repeat Tibolone prescription as well.

Week 10, day 72.

Overall I think Tibolone has been a success and I hope to get a repeat prescription next week. I've only 12 days supply left and I can't conceive going back to how I felt before Tibolone.

I was trying to think of any negatives while taking Tib and the only one would be that at times I felt too energised but a good exercise regime has put paid to that.

It's done nothing for my libido and wonder if I had the 5mg tablet as opposed to the 2.5mg  would be better.

However I'm taking testogel ( a healthy blob rubbed on my  abdomen every morning)  and this appears to be solving the problem.

Of course now that I'm in a better place physically and mentally, I've no excuse not to sort out certain issues in my relationship. I'm looking forward to it though as I couldn't beforehand and it doesn't seem as daunting now.

Right. Next.  A follow up appt with the gp and let's see what happens.

I wish us all luck in our respective journeys.

Great progress Blakeygray! I'm looking forward to some energy (provided it doesn't turn into anything manic or anxiety/jittery like - I can't stand that)!

Yes - maybe 5mg would do it for you as then you very well might not need the Testosterone gel. I did grab a paper on it the other day (I'll see if I can retrieve the link) that did warn not to use Tibolone together with Testosterone (don't want to rain on your parade - I was searching for my own purposes).

Keep posting your updates - it really encouraged us who are in the early days of taking it. xxxxx

Thanks Tempest and it's ok,  I don't feel rained on.  I'll have a Google and see what I can find.

Taking both isn't ideal but it's working so far. Call me paranoid but I check for extra hairs on my stomach and sing the highest note I can everyday, just to make sure nothing adverse is happening.

If I had to give up one, I'd start with the gel but only if I could get the higher dosage Tibolone.

Well it's day 80, I've only four Tibolone tablets left. Tomorrow I'll ring my gp surgery and see about an appointment for another prescription.

I'm still feeling good. My hair is thicker and much healthier looking and I've got enough energy to do a morning and evening workout This has been since I started using testosterone gel.

My moods are still balanced,  - a member of staff commented that I'm always happy- this made me laugh to myself because a couple of years ago, I was liked the living dead.  Don't get me wrong, I still get down about things from the past but am coping much better than before. This is due to taking Tibolone.
