Wow! At last!
« on: October 12, 2016, 12:08:01 PM »

Have just discovered there is a new HRT on the market called Duavive. It contains estradiol but instead of the dreaded progesterone, it contains bazadocifene to shed your womb lining.

It's in tablet form, so sadly isn't transdermal. But it is excellent news for progesterone intolerant women.

Hi, thank you so much for posting that news, GypsyRoseLee.  That is music to my ears as I have come to the conclusion that I must be progesterone into!erant.  I took Utrogestan for eight nights during which I had such extreme PMS that I felt suicidal.  I stopped it !ast Thursday as I felt like I was going mad.  There could be some hope on the horizon! Xx

Oh damn, I thought it was bio identical oestrogen. What a shame.

It would be good if it could be marketed as a separate progesterone product.  I don't see why this shouldn't be a option in future.

I also looked it up. It looks like a continuous combined therapy? I.e one same combined pill every day. Not for peri ladies then.

I really don't understand why they don't have medroxyprogesterone (Provera) available transdermally. Norethisterone is available in patch form, so why not the progestin that seems to be better tolerated by women?

 ;D Stellajane

Thanks GypsyRoseLee - yes I think this was launched earlier in US in 2013/2014 and I think there was some publicity about trials etc. Is it now available in UK?

It's brand name is DUAVEE and as the others say sadly does not contain estradiol - I really despair. I also think the manufacturers are really sneaky now calling them "conjugated oestrogens" and missing out the equine just to blind women to the true constituents.

Dana I don't think any of the progesterone derived progestogens are available transdermally and I presume it is to do with the molecular structure and stability? Not sure really - although I bet commercial considerations come into it as well.  I know that progesterone itself has to be micronised, and not produced as a normal tablet because it is unstable.

Yes of course dydrogesterone should be available separately, ditto lower doses of utrogestan, ditto vaginal use licensed. Big pharma has a lot to answer for...

My specialist told me that 'bioidentical' progesterone cannot be produced transdermally, as the patch would have to be  enormous to achieve the same bioequivalance as the capsule, a real shame.

The Chelsea Panay Clinic suggested this last year as I'm highly progesterone intolerant - initially I was interested but then I discovered that it's equine derived - so a big no no - also prefer transdermal.  Let's hope they continue working on 'next generation' HRTs.  Tiered dose of Utrogestan would be a start.

Is the oestrogen from a mare much worse for you than bio identical oestrogen?

It seems so odd they'd put old fashioned oestrogen in a new product?

I think that they are still widely used in the UK too. We have to remember that we are a very small proportion of women on here compared to the wider population of meno ladies happily using all sorts of hrt out there  ::) Albeit that we are very important !  ;D
