I am starting to despair that I will never feel 'normal' again.   My Health anxiety is taking over, every day I seem to have a new worry.   Now it is my teeth - for the second time this year I have weird tooth sensitivity on my top teeth.   No problems eating but the pain or sensitivity is now constant. 

I would love a day off from my over-active mind.   Can anybody reassure me that I am not going to become a toothless old hag?  (It went away last time, and as OH says, I haven't had any of the other diseases I worried so badly about).   Have recently started to halve my oestrogen - two months now on half dose of oestrogen only HRT.   Will this ever end??

Thanks - I already have an implant - it was expensive but so worth it.   quite simple and painless aswell.

Gum disease was one of my first ailments.  I'd never had problems but now it's a constant battle, I see a private hygienist every 3 months to help

So I'm now fat (bit over exaggerated but I feel it) , dodgy gums and badly thinning hair, lovely look I'd sport if I didn't buy products to help or pay for professionals who help

I get despondent too at where it'll all end X

If you use sensertivity toothpaste, don't rinse afterwards.....sorry I expect you already know that......
    As for thinning hair, there are lots of products on the market that really do help.....( from an ex hairdresser that has fine thin hair) ME......

Which hair products Ellie ? I've tried loads but given up, I find the hair fibres a godsend x

Teeth become sensitive for a number of reasons, more noticeable at 'our' age    …… I use those ti-pee brushes between each one, several times a day.  I have 3 implants ……….

Annie, it's important to get a good haircut and often.  Yes most of the shampoos for fine hair are good and bulk up your hair....Be careful with conditioner, choose one for fine thin hair and don't use too much.   The thickener I like the best is Redken number 6 thickening lotion, again not too much, about the size of a ten pence in Palm of hand, bit less on short hair. I have highlights in my hair, again it makes it look thicker.

Urbanchick - do use Sensodyne toothpaste as this will help reduce the sensitivity.  As Megamind has said, it is very important to really clean teeth properly - use floss and/or Tipees and since I've used an electric toothpaste my teeth have been much better generally.  It's the gums that can be a problem when meno hits - oestrogen deficiency can make the gums recede and expose sensitive areas that will hurt.  Keep brushing.

I am already borderline obsessive about my teeth.  Have used sensodyn for years [don't rinse], use electric toothbrush and tepee brushes.    Had two years of gum disease brought under control by hygienist visits every3 months.   I should have made it clear, this isn't an ongoing, 'ouch, that ice cream hurts' type thing.   It came on suddenly on Thursday and now all my front top teeth ache in a sort of sensitivity way.  But I can still eat and drink same as always.  Its more of a nerve ending thing, I think.    Last time it went away of its own accord, so hopefully it will this time.

I am very tired and busy work-wise, so that doesn't help.  At least while I'm on this tooth worry I'm not thinking about bowels, ovaries, dementia, heart attack, etc, etc.   So it has its up side!

I use a private dentist and am due to go soon so will bring appointment forward I think.  I also need a new mouthguard - very romantic! - as I grind my teeth and clench my jaw at night.  I also seem to have dry mouth syndrome at night when I sleep on my back, this probably isn't helping!

I also woke in the night with one leg gone to sleep!!   I am falling apart...

I've had pins and needles in various parts of the body in recent weeks  - no known cause.  Age??? 

I HATE electric toothbrushes, they make such a mess all over the mirror, basin, walls …….. they can also strip enamel off the teeth  .  I use a baby-sized brush behind the teeth followed by a larger one along the front as well as Ti-pee in various sizes ….. several times a day.

CLKD - Dentists and Hygenists recommend electric toothbrushes so I very much doubt they strip enamel off the teeth. You don't 'brush' with them, you hold it against each tooth and move along each tooth. Mine certainly doesn't make a mess.

Urbanchick - in that case, it may be from the teeth grinding. My husband grinds his teeth and he always has aching teeth. I get aching teeth due to my sinus problems.

Stellajane - although I'm fine with Sensodyne, when I tried the Sensodyne Pro Repair and Protect, it made my mouth really sore, it seemed to really irritate me, so I went back to normal Sensodyne.

Sorry you are having this worry and it may well be that your tooth grinding plus hormonal changes are the cause of your difficulties. It would be worth seeing your dentist earlier for peace of mind.

CLKD - Electric toothbrushes only make a mess if you switch them on before you put them in your mouth lol. Even a manual toothbrush would make a mess if you loaded it with toothpaste and shook it vigorously around the bathroom!

My hygienist gave me two heads for my electric toothbrush

She told me to:

Tepee floss once a day
Use fine head to get in between teeth at gums then to use proper head directed towards gums , gums need to be toughened and electric toothbrushes are better, I do 4 secs per tooth X

Megamind initially I had to do if I can remember 5-6 secs per tooth now down to 4 , sounds ridiculous talking seconds but I agree the more the better !

And if I lapse on my home treatment = I suffer ! Going through a phase now actually because I skipped teligious regime whilst on holiday x
