Hi Ladies

I haven't posted in some while......however always dipping in to read whats going on......just hoping one of you can give me some advice......long story short had severe abdominal pain yesterday ended up at the local hospital usual abdo exam and rectal exam they also found a trace of blood in my urine sample on a dip test, no infection detected  though they will send to the lab for further examination......googled that......big mistake 3 clicks to death  ......no real answer to why  I had such bad pain......she gave me a script for anti-inflammatory and suggested Buscopan I have IBS (D type) and when I had similar pain a month ago doctor gave me Mebeverine helped in the short term. Pain is not so bad today  and I have an appointment at the doctors later today to retest urine. Trace of blood always bad??

Sorry to rant but feel beside myself with anxiety xxx

Friend had ongoing blood in urine and pain without any overt infection. Turned out she had a very large kidney stone so it might be worth asking for a scan to be done if you are still in pain.

Will you be in touch with your GP to find out about the consequence of blood in the urine?  Pity you weren't reassured in the Hopsital

Very common to get blood trace in urine particularly when meno starts - my urine seems to always have blood trace and I was told by the urologist it's probably from scar tissue in urethra or bladder - I get a lot of burning as well.  Cystoscopy will probably be a good idea to rule out anything sinister - however if there is infection then blood is often present and ABs will sort this out.  DG x

Quick update just back from my doctors appointment........no blood in the specimen i just did.......she has asked for a number  of bloods and a poo sample......deep joy  also for me to go and have an ultrasound of lower half......just a watch and wait i guess xx

The ultrasound will rule out any kidney stones etc so good mot!

I always have blood on test and have done since I first had a sample sent off before the age of dip tests when I was 20.  I have had every test known to man because of this but nothing wrong I have what they call leaky kidneys ( they have big filters) that let stuff through into urine.
It causes no end of problems with routine tests and any A&E visits.  Once I blind them with medical terms they tend to believe me.

I am currently being investigated for the same. It started with a UTI which didn't begin in the usual way. instead of the low pain and difficulty passing urine, i just got stomach pain on the left just below the ribs and a temperature. The UTI feeling came later and was mild. I went to a GP and got an  AB course but it didn't clear up 100% so I went to the local A & E. They did blood tests for a kidney infection but found nothing so sent me home. Then they called me back because of a tiny bit of blood in the urine. They did a  CT scan to check for kidney stones but again found nothing.
My symptoms have now cleared up but I have had to cancel a short trip abroad because the GP wanted  to refer me for further tests with a urologist. I go the letter about it yesterday and i am a bit puzzled because they are still talking about tests for kidney stones. They also intend to  do a flexible cystosocopy. Have you ever had one of these?

Katejo - I had the same thing.  If blood is detected then they do these round of tests to be on the safe side.  This will include: a scan to see if there are kidney stones and a cystoscopy to look in your bladder. This is all standard stuff but they do all these tests as there can be a small risk of bladder cancer if blood is present.  I regularly have blood in my urine these days - it's a typical meno symptom and often means there is interstitial cystitis which they can do little for except to prescribe local oestrogen. Don't worry - I'm sure it's all fine.  Dg x

Hi Dancinggirl  I just don"t know why they want to check the kidney stones again when they only did it last week. How long did you have to wait for the results ?

yes i am going to ring tomorrow and ask. Maybe they don't know sbout my first scan.

Unfortunately the scan is simply part of this testing process, so I expect they will do it again anyway just because it is part of the routine. One of the reasons the NHS is in such a bad way financially is because things like tests results are not easily accessed by all departments or day to find so things are often repeated.

My mother-in-law went through whole raft of tests when she lived in Barnet but when she's was moved to a nursing home in south London they did all the tests again because it was a different health authority!!!!
