doctors appointment update!
« on: August 01, 2016, 07:02:37 PM »

Well just thought I would give a quick update! After 5 weeks wait I have finally seen my doctor, who said he didn't know what to do with me and was referring me to the gynaecologist to see if they could sort out what HRT/ treatment to give me. In the mean time he has given me some estriol cream to use.
Hopefully the waiting time wont be too long and I will finally get sorted out.

Once you are sorted, maybe point your GP in this direction   ::).  Will you let us know how you get on?

Use it, your Husband pays Tax on it as a company 'perk'  ;).  You may see the same Consultant who works in the NHS but you will have more time etc..   Why wait?

Menopause wasn't covered on our private health insurance >:( so do check that it is covered under yours if you go that route.

Hello robotwars.

It may be worth checking to see if menopause is covered under your husband's policy. A while ago the journalist Mariella Frostrup made the headlines when her insurers refused to pay for her HRT because they said it is a natural process and didn't require medical treatment.

She has a problem page in the Observer magazine and a few weeks ago a woman wrote in complaining about her menopause and Mariella said one of her own worst symptoms was the feeling of despondency. I think many of us can relate to that!

Take care.

On a similar note - did anyone read Dr Max in the Saturday Daily Mail????  Made my blood boil as basically he was saying that menopause is just an excuse for bad behaviour!!!  He said he doesn't really think that women suffer with hormones enough to produce the symptoms we get and that it's more a case of the fact that at this age, we are unhappy, unfulfilled, think about the things we have lost and won't regain and refuse to move forward and become despondent and depressed and go to our GP looking for some magic pill.  I was furious when I read it.  He obviously hasn't read the manual and obviously his mother kept her suffering to herself.....

Some of what he says does make sense to be fair. Some women have got unhappy lives before menopause and this can come to a head due to the things he mentions rather than just hormones but he doesn't address the physical effect that menopause can have on a woman.

Hello ladies.

When a man says that the menopause isn't a problem I think we should all descend on his house and tip a bucket of water over him all through the night, or put sharp objects in his underpants or sneak up on him several times a day to frighten him and make him panic or... you get my drift ladies.

It isn't their problem so they don't understand, maybe if we could make it their problem we'd get some help and sympathy!

Take care all.

I agree Taz, some of the mental issues could/can be buried from years before and could/can resurface when we hit peri and are at a lower ebb. Which is why I believe that hrt is brilliant at tackling the physical symptoms but not the physiological issues. We really do need to re -evalue all aspects of our lives to try to combat this transitional period we are facing. OMHO ofcourse  ;)
