Did your symptoms worsen before stabilising on HRT?
« on: July 31, 2016, 08:45:25 PM »

Hi Ladies,

I would love to hear from you all regarding your experiences with HRT, and in particular how long it took before you started to experience some relief from your symptoms.

Is there anybody here who's symptoms got WORSE before they got better after starting HRT? Insomnia is my main symptom and i was hoping hrt would help.

I'm on day 6, and my insomnia/sleep quality has progressively gotten worse since starting. I know it's early days so I'm not panicking. I just want to know if this is something that can happen as a result of the body trying to adjust to HRT.

Please share your stories with me

Thanks!

I'm sure if you're peri your own hormones will still be up in the air

I'm post and still have symptoms (I presume they're meno symptoms) and have decided to reduce my mg of oestrogen and it does seem to be helping 'a tad' .  I'm having more bloods taken in September and pin my hopes on them balancing out what is unbalanced

Many ladies on here say it took a few months to get relief with their hrt, myself I remember back when I got given oral oestrogen it cured me within days, then about a week or so later I upped my dose and felt great again for about 13 years until peri started, and now I feel a difference within a day or two of reducing /increasing my oestrogen patch

Hi its all unfortunately abit of trial and error witb hrt. Some find the right hrt first time like I did years ago ,some need to try a few different ones. One of my main symptom was insomnia and sorry to say hrt did nothing for me in that department but everything else was addressed, its not always a miracle cures for everything its sometimes a case of a trade off and adjusting your expectations. Hope you find your solution soon.

Hi my fellow Aussie, please let us know how you are going as we learn from each other on this forum. After a year I am still in the trial and error phase but making progress. If it was not for this forum and I could only rely on my GP's knowledge, I would have been worse off for sure!

Thanks Matilda.

Yeah most doctors don't have much of an idea. Mine nearly fell over backwards when in our first meeting  I marched in there and told her exactly what I wanted, and in what dosage. Thank heavens for forums!

I guess the key is to get a doctor who is willing to listen to us and work with us. Mine seems pretty good so far.

Are you peri or post menopause?

Feel free to PM me if you need more info re the Utrogestan :)

As far as I know, it has something to do with only allowed to send pm's after a certain amount of posts you did...I think it was 10. Thanks for your effort. I will wait patiently for your repl. In the meanwhile I am going to try and speak to a pharmacist at Lawleys as well.

I'm post Meno and things definitely got worse before they got better. It was about 7-10days before I saw improvement.

Have been on hrt for about six months now and things are more settled. Still get flushes but they are a lot less and are bearable. Sleep did improve initially but then got worse and I wake up several times a night (have no problem getting to sleep). Find that I'm very tired at the end of the day.

Hiya Ladies

Soniad,  I'm on my fourth month of HRT, and now feeling the benefit. As others have said, I think it all depends how far into the menopause you are, as to whether symptoms still sneak through whilst taking HRT.  Insomnia was a problem before taking HRT, and upto now it seems to be much better. HRT has also regulated the monthly periods, which were causing
hormone havoc, when they were all over the place. It's also settled the sweats. Think I've been lucky that the first type of HRT I tried worked,  but I know others who can't find one that works for them, and have to keep changing after the 3 months trial.  They say to try for 3 months, then you'll get a better idea of how it suits you. Symptoms still sneak through on HRT, but I'm just into the early stage of menopause. I'd try it for a bit longer, to see if insomnia settles. Good luck hope you find something that helps :)

So Nita, I am actually in peri-menopause (still having regular periods). Are you saying that once you get to the stage when you are no longer ovulating (menopause) managing hrt becomes a bit more predictable?

I had the crappiest sleep last night. I changed my patch at 6.30PM last night and at 4.30AM I realised that I had left half of the protective plastic bit on the patch!

So I ripped it off and changed it.

AAARRRRRGH!!! ::)
