Having had back pain on standing and walking for years, I suddenly had a very acute attack starting April, cut to yesterday results of X-ray show I have fractured spine at T6, or collapsed vertebrae.
Dr thinks osteoporosis but right now can't treat me as I'm long term fragmin and allergic to vitamin D and that's needed with osteo pills.
I'm 54 and was not ready for this diagnosis. Reading loads and floundering, agh nightmare

You poor thing!  No way would I be ready for this diagnosis either, even with your difficulties.

Will you get to see a specialist in osteoporosis?  (and will they be able to hel? )

Maybe contact the UK Osteoporosis Society for advice?

Dahliagirl I'm seeing a Rheumy that understands APS my blood clotting disorder, trouble is I doubt he's a specialist in osteoporosis too.
Right now I have nothing, GP too scared.

CLKD fragmin is a blood thinning injection I use daily. Beyond that who knows what I will get.

CLKD I know but he just threw his hands in the air and said he had never met a case like me and had no idea what to do.

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis. Hopefully you'll be seeing 2 experts if one can't advise on both conditions.

A friend of mine recently broke her wrist and has now been told she has severe osteoporosis. She is in shock so I have a very slight idea about what you are going through.

I hope you get effective treatment ASAP.

My GP told me "I don't know how to remove a running stitch" - my reply, "Well it's time you learned so practice on mine" - I was shocked to the core.  Had I know I would have removed it myself.

At least your GP is honest  .  Go back and ask what he has decided!!!!

I would seriously consider a private consultant, if only to get the full picture.

GPs never know more than the more usual conditions/situations so you may have to take the lead.

It's your health so go and kick arse.

No I don't do 'social media' because people might not be 'real' there!

First  you should consider contacting the Society as suggested above, that's where the knowledge is and no scare stories there!

Hello again ladies.

I just wanted to add that I saw my friend with the broken wrist today and she told me she had found the NOS forum very helpful.

She also told me that the first person she saw at the Minor Iinjuries Clinic didn't believe her wrist could be broken because she hadn't actually fallen on it and he'd never known anyone break a bone by twisting it as she had done. I find it amazing that a health professional can be so ignorant of the likelihood of Osteoporosis in older people! He was convinced he was right and refused to x ray her wrist and it was only later when she saw her  GP that she was diagnosed correctly.

CLKD -  I'm not surprised you don't do other social media, where would you find the time?
