I thought oestrogen was supposed to make you feel better?
« on: June 25, 2016, 09:01:19 AM »

I'm on patch 3 of the oestrogen part of Evorel Sequi and feeling awful. Swapped from Conti to Sequi 11 days ago because of constant bleeding and since then I have gone steadily downhill. Can't sleep, feel sick, anxious, sweaty, really miserable and no energy/enthusiasm. I can't help but think this is due to progesterone withdrawl because apart from the bleeding I was doing quite well on the Conti and my citalopram. I'm hoping that when I start the first Conti patch on Wednesday that I will start to feel better.

It is generally, but think it depends on what your levels are, etc.  I've been off my Oestrogen for around 9 days now and at the moment I'm feeling much better (with emphasis on the "at the moment").  Am trying a break to see where I am in meno, but will not hesitate to go back on if I feel I need it.  Hope you get sorted.

Well I'm about 3 years post meno so I'm guessing that before I started HRT in February they were virtually non existent.

Thank you Stellajane. Well the only issues I had with it was bleeding but my GP said it was either wait for 6 months to see if it stopped, or go on the sequi and get a predictable bleed.

Because I have anxiety I was worried sick that the bleeding was an indication of something awful and my Dr said she wouldn't send me for a scan until I'd been on the Conti patches for at least 6 months because it was very common to bleed at first on these patches. Of course I didn't want to wait that long (visions of tumours growing at a rapid rate whilst I waited) so I agreed to try the sequi. Within 48hrs the bleeding had stopped and I haven't had it since so I'm guessing she was right.

But I feel so unwell, all my anxiety symptoms have returned with a vengeance and my sleep pattern, which had been improving, has gone back to how it was months ago. My appetite has gone again (I lost a lot of weight from the anxiety) and I'm just at my wits end.

Would it be harmful to put the progesterone/estrogen patch back on or should I wait until Wednesday when I'm due to start the first one anyway?

Sorry to be such a pain but I was doing so well recently that it is a horrible shock to be plunged back into the depths of despair again so quickly. I wish now that I hadn't been so impatient and given the Conti patches more time.

Hello Mojo61.

A month ago I changed from Evorel Conti patch to Utrogestan and Gel which is a combination I know a lot of ladies prefer. After two weeks I began to feel awful with huge anxiety, palpitations, no appetite and last night didn't sleep a wink!

I think I told the whole story on another thread of yours but I am seriously thinking about returning to the patch.

If your GP thinks any bleeding will settle in time and you have proved that HRT is the cause rather than something sinister then maybe a return to the patch would suit you too.

Take care and keep us updated.

Thank you ladies.

Yes Kathleen, I did post about it the other day too but it disappeared down the board. I remember you saying you were thinking of going back to the Conti patch too. I wish I had never messed about with the patches now and had stuck with the original as I think that my body had got used to a continuous supply of progesterone over the 4 months I've been on the combined patches, and then I suddenly stop them one day and expect my body not to wonder what the hell has happened.

My mood is awful, it is going up and down literally every couple of minutes. I'm all over the place...

I feel like just slapping on the combined patch and saying to heck with it but I don't want to mess my poor body around any longer so I think I will have to wait until Wednesday next week.

Can I ask why you changed over from the patches to the gel? Or have I already asked you that? Who knows lol, I don't even know what time of day it is at the moment!

Hello Mojo61.

Yes you did ask me that and I'm now trying to remember what I said lol!

I recall wondering if the Norethisterone in the patch was giving me unwanted side effects plus I had lots of bleeding which had been investigated and all was fine. I guess I hoped a new regime would be better and I liked the flexibility of the gel.
I'm definitely thinking 'better the devil you know' at the moment though!

Wishing you well.

Mojo I honestly don't think if you're feeling that desperate a few days is going to matter.  You can tell your doctor how you were feeling and what you did.  If you start to feel better it should clarify for you that you feel better taking progesterone continually.

Do you mean with regards to changing the patch before Wednesday? It will be OK to do that you think?

I was thinking in terms of changing your patch early, then having your bleed, then starting a new type of continuous HRT after the bleed.

Thank you Stellajane. I put a new Conti patch on this morning. When would I expect a bleed to start because it feels like one wants to start now?

Yes that's correct Stellajane. So I should have a bleed in about 2 weeks yes?
