Can we talk Estriol please?!
« on: June 22, 2016, 03:54:07 PM »

Hi! A newbie here!

My brain is scrambled with information about the menopause and my usually lovely G.P just didn't seem interested in helping me  :(

I'm hoping it will all make sense once I've read more on this site, but for now my most pressing issue is vaginal dryness, wanting the loo more frequently and just a general uncomfortable feeling down below.

I'm in a fairly new relationship so am still having frequent sex and hate feeling this way  :'(

At my request, my G.P prescribed me Estriol 0.01% and I have been using it for the past two nights.

I can feel a very slight burning sensation, nothing unbearable - but just wondered if this is normal and if I should continue using it?

Also, how long before I notice a difference? Should I use my usual lube as well for now?

I am going to make an appointment with a lady dr to discuss this and other symptoms but there's no telling when that will be!   ???

Thanks!

Hi flobo1964 and welcome to MM
The oestrogen cream can burn a bit after application, it 's the fillers that can aggravate - most of us prefer to use Vagifem as it is easier to use and less messy.  It does take 2-4 weeks to really work it's magic.  Most of us find that lots of lubricant is necessary for sex when meno hits. I also use a vaginal moisturiser every day together with Vagifem used at least twice a week.
You do need to use any local oestrogen treatment every night for 2 weeks at first, then usually 2-3 times a week after that. Local oestrogen needs to be used regularly from then on to maintain a healthy environment.  DG x
