Took my first 200mg last night. Felt sick all day today really tired and eating like a horse. Doesn't bode well for 12days of this. Should I take it vaginally?? Didn't take it at all the first month only oestrogen gel and my own period came right on que 28days. Thinkin of upping my gel to two pumps as well.last chance saloon here so really anxious to make it work xx

I found that it made me feel sleepy/spaced out/woozy/weird the first day, then sort of calm and drugged the remainder of the first course of it. It wasn't as bad the second time around with it, but I felt like I needed to plan my schedule around it. By the 3rd and following months of it, I no longer get those effects from it.

Tinkerbellj, my advice would be to halve the dose and just take 1 x 100mg capsule vaginally - try to place it next to your cervix. Firstly, it works better when taken in that way because most of it reaches the womb (50% gets lost in your digestive system when taken orally) and secondly, it has fewer side effects when taken vaginally.

Definitely use 100mg vaginally next time. Hope you feel better soon.

I have only ever used it vaginally and have always had a nil-by-mouth approach to HRT. I always use the 200 mg and it's fine re nausea - I don't get any. Why don't you try it ( 200 mg) by this route and see how you get on. After discussion with your doc you may be able to reduce to 100 mg for reasons given but I would start at the licensed dose (well in France anyway where it gives the alternative route as vaginal but does not say reduce the dose).

Agree with MaryG, in that 200mg of Utro for 12 days is a helluva lot of progesterone if you're only using 1 pump of estrogel.
But then, we're both patients of Prof Studd who fully advocates only 100mg of Utro for just 7 days regardless of how much estrogel you use. And he is THE leading world expert.
When I first saw Prof Studd I had been using 2-3 sachets of sandrena gel for over 2 months without using any progesterone. He wasn't remotely concerned about this, and actually told me to continue for a further 6 weeks using 3 lumps of estrogel before finally using 100mg of Utro for 7 days.
He didn't mention anything about scans either.
I do think this 'one size fits all' approach to progesterone is ridiculous.

GRL I agree, it is ridiculous and wrong to prescribe the same amount of progesterone for all doses of oestrogen. One size very definitely does not fit all and it should be noted that too much progesterone can cause womb erosion and excessive bleeding. Many doctors (my gynae included) feel that progesterone should be kept to an absolute minimum because any breast cancer risk (albeit small risk) with HRT is because of the progesterone component, not the oestrogen.
Professor Studd is the expert and if he says it's OK to take 100mg Utrogestan for 7 days (vaginally) then that is good enough for me. I have yet to hear of someone who has taken this dose of Utrogestan and had womb lining build up. All the problems seem to come from women who are taking too much progesterone and ruining the positive effects of the oestrogen.

Such a difference takong it vaginally! No sickness no . runny tummy. Feeling emotional and short tempered but hey what's new. I am going to take 100mg for the 12days instead of the 200 and see what happens. When I was using just the oestrogen gel last month I took my period right on que! So hopefully this will be enough for a bleed. I hate this ..all of it so unfair

Tinkerbellj, that is great news, I'm so glad it's helped and you are feeling better now. It sounds like you now have a plan so I would advise you to stick with it.
