The trouble is a GP can only order a general thyroid function test which, as you have shown, is quite general.  In order to see the whole picture you need the full set - TSH, Free T4 and Free T3 at least and only an consultant endocrinologist can order all of them unless you can pay privately for it  :(.

Hope Biscuit is playing happily at Rainbow Bridge and that Puddles starts to heal your heart.

I've got the Serum TSH level: 1.87 mu/L (0.4-4.0)

That is actually a good level puddlesmum.  My endocrinologist worked hard with me for quite a long time to get anywhere near as good a level as that.

Well I've had my phone consultation with the Professor. What a lovely man he is.  Really listened to what I had to say.  He agrees that I have hormonal depression (with a little regular depression which may have made it worse) but he's prescribed me Estrogel and Testosterone but doesn't think I need Progesterone yet and wants to see how I go on that.  He says I'll have some improvement in about 8 weeks, so fingers crossed. AND written a really fab letter to my doctor about it.

I have hypnotherapy tomorrow for the first time too. Fingers crossed I'll be on the mend then.  Here's hoping.

How do you feel this evening?  Do you pick up the prescription from your GP?  Let us know how the hypnotherapy session goes!

If you don't fancy talking with a Personal Trainer, do check if there is a dietician attached to your Surgery.  Did the Prof ask about weight issues?  Do you cook [regular Members know that I don't but have a Very Handsome Man who does  ;)] …….

Yay! That's great news!
I think Studd is a lovely man and his regime (so far) after 2 months,  has made such a positive difference to my life.
I think you should be so chuffed and proud of yourself that despite being so anxious you spoke to him anyway.
Hope you start to feel better soon and not being on progesterone  for a bit will help with your mood, as will continuous doses of Oestrogel.  I noticed a shift, albeit a small one, in my levels of anxiety after just a couple of weeks but then I had zilch in oestrogen in my body being on the sequential doses provided by Femoston 1/10, which was useless for me.
It's all small but important steps to feeling better. Hope the hypnotherapy goes well but pleased the consultation went so well for you.
Yay again!  :)

Hi Puddlesmum - You are not alone with all your feelings - I too  started to experience the anx and ups and downs when I was early/mid forties - sometimes I felt fine and like a weight had been lifted - other times plunge into chronic anx/dep...
I too could not have children - so can also relate to what you said about your dog, .. You have taken a positive step of seeing someone & hopefully he will help you manage... tc

puddlesmum, welcome and well done for taking the first step in your recovery and contacting Professor Studd.  I think you have done the right thing to go to him first, he is the best and will give you the very best and most up to date advice.  Time and time again we hear of women (myself included) whose lives have been changed by his brilliant regime.  How wise of him to put you on Oestrogel and testosterone only for a while, this will enable you to recover without the ill effects of progesterone which you are obviously producing yourself anyway.

I hope your doctor will prescribe this regime for you and good luck with it and the hypnotherapy of course.  We look forward to hearing how get on.

Afternoon Ladies

Well Professor Studd was lovely!  I would not hesitate to go straight to him if anyone else is suffering because he is quite simply a gentleman.  He diagnosed hormonal depression as well as regular depression (due to bereavements) and prescribed Oestrogel (3 pumps per day) a tiny smidgen of Testogel and I'm to start Utrogestan for 7 days starting in September, the rest I can start straight away (although chemist is having problems locating some).  He was concerned about the weight but I assured him that I had it under control (lost 8 stone already, and put back 2 stone - I thought I had put back 4 so that was a result) so I'll carry on eating healthy and getting it back off again.  But it made me feel so much better knowing that he listened and understood exactly how I felt.

So hypnotherapy... it's amazing.  I had a session on Tuesday morning and for some reason about 2 hours later I started to buzz with excitement.  I still felt depressed and anxious but it was like I was looking forward to something.  I also started my period (albeit a little bleed due to being on PrempakC - which Professor said was an absolute waste of time and my doctor was prescribing something not good enough for me). And it's kind of levelled me out a little. I'm still waking up scared and anxious but I sat in the sun for the last 2 days and managed to get on doing some work which I haven't for over a month.  I also changed my sleeping meds from Sominex to "Sweetest Dreams" by Solgar and had a lovely nights sleep last night waking up gently rather than with a head zap and a start. It's obviously not helping with the hormones but I feel a little more confident knowing that my therapist is helping with the "unconscious" me and I can deal with the "conscious" me until they both start working together with the hormones.

I should get my hormones tomorrow (hopefully if Lloyds Pharmacy have them in) as I'm wanting to get started on it so I can get all the other symptoms under control and start living my life again.

I too have a lovely man to cook for me and he lost weight with me too so will be more than happy to get back on it and start creating tasty dishes for us :)

puddlesmum, I'm so glad you are feeling better and more positive but just wait until you start the gel, you will feel a million times better!  How sensible of Professor Studd to give you a good long spell of Oestrogel only.

I can just imagine Professor Studd saying that Prempak C is useless and that your doctor had prescribed a medication that was no good for you.  He is dead right of course and despite the new NICE guidelines, this is happening time and time again and women are getting fobbed off with ADs, cheapo forms of HRT that don't work or alternatively, being given so much progesterone it either makes them feel terrible or stops their regime from working properly.  I can't say this often enough - it is absolutely vital to get onto the right type of HRT at the right dose and right oestrogen/progesterone ratio.

Please keep us posted on your progress.

Hello I just wanted to hop on and say hello. I too see Studd and he's changed my life, now 9 months on I am a totally different person :) I've only ever found him delightful and you just know you're in safe hands. I'm 41 and peri and saw him for crippling pmt, pnd and a whole host of symptoms!! He has resolved them all apart from the odd bit of dodgy sleep and a few issues with progesterone (I'm severely intolerant) I'm fixed and it's brilliant!! I am certain he will sort you out. The ostrogel is the best thing ever 😂 Let us know how you get on X

He's written lots of papers CKLD, both formal clinical ones and more informal ones for patients, summarising the latest clinical research findings re HRT as well as books on the subject.
Have a look at his web site as some papers are available there to read or do a quick Google for a long list!  :)
