VA or something else?
« on: April 28, 2016, 01:49:38 PM »

Hi Everyone,

Will try to keep this short.  In 2014 due to bleeding so heavily I collapsed with severe anaemia.   Ultrasound revealed a thickened lining of 14 mm with fibroids.  Surgery followed for the fibroids, biopsy which was clear of cancer, and was sent on my way.

Since Sept 2014, no period, so my GP tells me I am post menopausal.

I should add in here that I have Systemic Lupus, Hughes Syndrome (Antiphosolipid), and Cluster Headache (Chronic), Hughes is high risk for blood clots, on aspirin for this, Lupus can feed off estrogen, and Cluster Headaches are seriously debilatating, and I suffer with rebound migraines when Clusters end.

I went to my GP a month ago, with urinary urgency, and a feeling of pressure in the middle of my groin, and vaginal dryness.   After discussion he said he would prescribe me Vagifem, and that this may help bladder symptoms.     I am to take Vagifem for 2 weeks daily, then drop down to twice a week as maintenance which reading on the forum, seems the norm.

What brings me here today mainly is, two days prior to taking the Vagifem, I had a major bleed, not a show a bleed, I could not control this, I just flooded, with huge clots the size of oranges.    This stopped after about 4 hours.   Last night the same thing happened, large clots, and now this has stopped.  And lastly without too much detail, penetrative intimacy with my husband may have triggered the second flooding incident, and since then, penetrative intimacy is impossible, so much pain, even with lubricant.

I have an appointment with my GP on Tuesday to discuss, do you think I should be asking to referred back to a Gynaecologist or at the very least have an ultrasound.   I am worried about the thickened lining, aside removal of my polyps, no other treatment was done, is this right please?

I have also ordered some multi-gyn actigel, which I have seen mentioned.

Thank you in advance for any thoughts.

From what you have said about the size of the clots, I would be phoning your GP for an urgent appointment rather than wait until next Tuesday.

Any bleeding post menopause needs to be checked out. Good luck.

Hi HopesandDreams

I agree with Halfpint - I would make an urgent appointment with your doc NOW for asap - this evening or tomorrow morning - due to the szie of the clots and the fact that it is further post-menopausal bleeding. It may well be that your fibroids - if they weren't removed completely - are causing you this problem but this should be checked out straight away - and described as you have told us. As you said if your thickened lining was not treated at all - then this can come away by itself which is also what the clots could be. I would have thought you should have been given a course of progestogen to thin it down. Did you have a D&C or anything when they removed the polyps? Don't let them send you on your way. You should get another two week referral to see a gynaecologist.

Let us know how you get on and try not to worry in the meantime!

Apologies for the late update to my post.

I did see my GP as an emergency, and was put on the Fast Track 2 week gynae cancer path.

I was actually seen in 4 days, where I had trans-vaginal ultrasound and regular pelvic ultrasound.   Endometrium described as linear and even and measured 3.5 mm.   Four pedunculated fibroids were noted, and these have now been removed using the Varsapoint system.

Ovaries unfortunately were obscured by bowel gas but no cysts or adnexal masses noted.   Vaginal atrophy noted.

The fibroids were sent for pathology and I am happy to report they were benign.

I have been given the green light to recommence Vagifem.

Recommended I be scanned again in 6 months as a precaution.

Hi HopesandDreams - so pleased to hear that all is OK and thanks for updating us. Did you get an answer as to why the heavy clots - was these caused by the fibroids? Also glad you will be re-starting Vagifem and hope you continue to remain well :) .
