I'm new to this.. feeling tired and a few questions...
« on: April 22, 2016, 06:14:15 PM »

Hi there,

I have a few questions.. I'm new to all of this and just 2 weeks ago realised that I am well into the menopause.  I think I've had symptoms for a few years but it was only after having the hot sweats that I went to the doctors, who confirmed with blood tests etc that I am in the menopause.  I am 46 and so it was all such a shock.

I have taken Femoston for 3 days and already my symptoms feel better!  I'm hoping this will continue.  My hot sweats have nearly gone and I feel so much calmer with my 3 children.  I feel so much more in control which is great!  :)  Its strange because I can sort of feel when my hot sweats would usually come but now I feel only a very teeny tiny bit of anxiety and expect that to go soon too.

I am feeling so unbelievably tired though and suddenly feel so old, I don't feel as though I'll ever feel like going out in the evening again.  Up until the last few months, I was the sort of person to never stop.  I could never sit down before I'd tidied up for example, but now I feel as though I have to sit for a bit first.  Today I've just had to sit down several times and even felt a bit light headed.  Is this normal?  Is it the menopause and will it get better with the HRT?  Also my appetite isn't as big as usual.  My cravings for biscuits have gone too.  Is this because I am taking  Femoston?  (although only 3 days?)

I just feel as though I'll have to get things done in the morning and actually stop in the evening, where as I used to continue doing jobs well into the evening.  This is so new for me and really reminds me of my Mum's way of doing things.  Is this how it is going to be for me now I'm in the new phase of life? Or will I get my energy back again? Maybe it is good to slow down at 46?

I've started taking Vit D3 which I was very low on and also a good Omega 3 vitamin so hope that will help too.

Thank you for reading and I would really love to hear your thoughts on this. Phia xx

Hi Phia

I'm a bit older than you (48) and share your shock that it's all happening in my 40s, and frustration at the tiredness! I work three days a week and I'm on my feet all day. I find by day three I'm exhausted!  I've been taking HRT (Elleste duet 1mg and just about to switch to Femoston 1/10) since January this year and it's helped with a lot of my symptoms especially vasomotor, bladder/soreness and IBS, but the tiredness persists. Also when I'm tired I get headachey and a sort of wooshy  dizzy head. Difficult to explain. I didn't get a full night's sleep for 8 years (child related) but coped. A broken night these days seems to finish me off!

I try and have a lie in at the weekends  (husband takes over) and I'm in bed by 10 pm.

Like you I'm wondering will I ever have an evening out again?!!

I guess I'll have to see how things progress. CKLD I know you're right, but it's s bit depressing.

I feel your pain.

Hi Phia

I agree with the others - you have to listen to your body. However..... you most certainly do not need to accept that you start slowing down at 46 - that is incredibly young. The extreme fluctuations of hormones in peri-menopause do take it out of you though, but I would definitely get checked out by the doc as already said - if you are feeling that weary. I was doing jobs well into the evening until 9 pm at your age (had 4 children last two at 38 and 40) so was often ironing, washing up, tidying, sorting out clothes etc until then.

Hell - I even feel guilty now about feeling tired and that I need to slow down and I'm almost 63 - I'm thinking surely it's too young to feel this - there must be something wrong with me?!!!

Depending on what your periods have been doing and your cycle, the Femoston should at least even out the extreme dips in oestrogen, although you will still get the progesterone crash just before your bleed especially if it's synced with your cycle. Hopefully it will all settle and you will feel much better. In the meantime get some rest if you need it but don't give up and accept this is it for the rest of your life!! Very important when you feel better - to take more exercise as you get older to keep everything working, joints muscles etc and to help keep the weight off! Oops that probably isn't relevant to you right now!
