Hi everyone, I live just outside of Newcastle upon Tyne and was wondering if anyone can recommend a menopause specialist as the Consultant I have seen was not helpful at all. Her specialism was sexual and reproductive health and although lovely had never heard of using utrogestan vaginally, morning anxiety and when talking about zoladex never mentioned add back hrt. I am prepared to travel and pay if necessary as my gp has been of very little help.

I live just outside of Newcastle too and i went to new croft house in the city centre and saw the menopause specialist there I cant imagine its the same person you saw as,she was,fantastic and cured my flushes within 24  hours she travels the world teaching etc and is well respected. Last week I saw her colleague who was just as good. You can refer yourself just ring up and ask for appointment or your gp can refer you . Good luck

By the way, what kind of dog do you have. I have an adorable cocker spaniel and don't know what I would have done without her through this xx

Hi I went to new croft centre too, live about 25 miles away from newcastle. Consultant I saw said that I would need to stay on AD's as HRT doesn't treat the emotional side of menopause??  Not sure this is actually true!

Where I live I am planning to set up a menopause support group as there seems to be a lack of support for us up here, and especially as I went into surgical menopause, so none of my friends have been through it.

If you find anyone good please let me know as still suffering!!

Hi Nikki, the advice re anti D's seems to go against what other doctors say as the cause of the emotional issues is hormone related. I have tried them in the past and found no benefit. When my hormones aren't playing up my emotions are fine.
I have seen on another thread that Walking the dog is having a rough time so it seems that the treatment from the centre in Newcastle hasn't been a success so far although I do understand how difficult it can be.
I totally agree that us ladies in the North East have a real lack of access to specialist services. This clearly needs to change as it has such a devastating impact on women's lives.

Appears as though there is a lack of specialists nationwide. One of the GPs at my surgery managed to get me a referral a few years back to my local clinic.  I'm even further  North, in Aberdeen. However, only ever got 2 appointments with her. Further appointments were cancelled & next available were a year further on as she was only specialist. When that appointment came around, it was cancelled for a further year.  I took myself off her list as I reckoned there were others far worse off than myself.

Yes agree re AD's but they have helped me I think, as feel a little bit on a more even keel.  Which I could just get my confidence back, had 5 months off work (am a teacher) and still get anxiety moments.

Need to continue at work for a bit longer, so wondering whether to increase my AD's for a bit to get me through.  Once finish work in the summer may try and find a new HRT as want to wean myself off the AD's.

No didn't t see DR D M it was another lady think Katherine ?? 

Did think about going to Nuffield and paying, but not sure whether they will be any different and don't want to waste my money!

This menopause is such a roller coaster, and thank god for this website!

Hi Nikki, I know what you mean about confidence. It just goes but it does come back. I have had 3 or 4 long spells off work and each time have managed to get back. I thought I was over the worst having managed over a year back at work then wham it's back with a vengeance.
I saw the same consultant as you and she also advocated ADs for me but I didn't find any benefit. The new NICE guidelines seem to endorse that they should not be the first line of treatment. Although she was very nice I found her lack ok knowledge about some things surprising eg had never heard of using utrogestan vaginally or the fact that many of us feel rubbish in the morning but gradually improve as the day goes on etc.
I think I will ask to see the other consultant who heads up the service but am also thinking about Nick Panay although like you say there are only limited options and i do wonder whether it's just a case of letting nature take its course aided by hrt. On the other hand being in the care of someone who really knows their stuff may make a difference. I just need something hopeful to hang on to.

Hello peeps I'm new here  so please excuse me if I go on and on but I was wondering if anyone has any of my peri symptoms. .well I have massive crying spells, i mean like a baby, very low mood, and anxiety. ..All of which hit me like a steam train one January morning .
... I had pnd with my last child and this seems really familiar. .I get flush face but not sweats..I hate this I really mean it!! It's effecting my boyfriend and family
and docs are a waste of time. 
I feel very alone. I'm a single mum of 2 and I'm frightened of what's happening to me..I live near Middlesbrough. Wish I knew someone who is going through the process too..Thank you for listening. .love to you all

Hi dkidd - you are no longer alone - you have us lot to keep you going 

Your symptoms do sound typical of peri menopause. How are your periods doing? Are they still regular? Also the hot face without sweating is a hot flush rather than a hot sweat which is common during peri too.

You might like to introduce yourself under the New Members section too so that more people will spot your post and welcome you.
