HRT and Lung disease

I am a new member. I recently started taking Elleste duet after 2 years of trying to cope with sweats and flushes. I have COPD and find that the hormones make my lung symptoms much worse. I am also suffering from a very low mood. I was ok till I started taking the grey tablets. I may have a sensitivity to hormones as I also found taking the pill and the mirena coil both had a similar effect. Anyone else had similar problems or is it just me.

can't help much other than suggest that you contact your Consultant at the Hospital? or speak with a Pharmacist for advice, most have private rooms these days.
Browse round, make notes: we have a funny room too!

Hi Patty 17
Sorry to hear about your COPD. I'm not sure about how the HRT may be affecting our lung function. I know that there is an increase in asthma amongst women using HRT but it seems that it doesn't make COPD worse which is one good thing - hang on to the positives.
As regard your low mood. The progesterone in Elleste is one called Norethisterone (grey tablets) which is known to cause depression and low mood plus pmt type symptoms in some women. These side effects do sometimes get better after the first three months but it may be better to opt for a different hrt. There are other members on here who are more knowledgeable as to which type and I'm sure they will be along soon to advise. You can have bio identical hormones which are kinder to the body. I have also found this study about bio identical hormones and COPD which may be encouraging

Hi and welcome Patty17 - try Femoston 1/10 - the progesterone is kinder and better tolerated - this has bio identical oestrogen. A good alternative is the Oestrogel or oestrogen patch with Utrogestan DG x

Hi Taz, Dancing girl and CKLD.
Thank you for the replies to my post. I am seeing the doctor soon, and my consultant in June so I will discuss it with them.
Kind regards

I did find that B4 each period I would get breathless, probably due to holding onto water until the bleed began. Let us know how you get on!
