Anyone who didn't get on with the mirena
« on: April 14, 2016, 03:05:16 PM »

Just wondering how soon you reacted to it? I've been really down in the dumps today  :-\  it's only been 8 days so I know it's very early on and I'm prob just having 'one of them days'  ::)

Cant reply with personal experience, but I do know that at first, the hormone within the Mirena can get into your system a little and cause initial side effects. Friends have had spots and low mood. For the majority, it clears after a few months. In fact, most of my friends with one rave about them!  However, Studd does suggest that up to 10% of women who're very progesterone intolerant will be affected by it more long term.

I know it's hard, but it's very early days so I would try to stick it out if you can.

Had mine fitted yesterday, feeling no different so far but I am worried when side effects are going to kick in or has it fallen out and I have not noticed  :-\

Don't look for trouble ladies, it's so easy to read all the scary stuff about side effects etc. and to not take notice of the 80-90% of ladies who do extremely well with the Mirena - the women who do OK on the Mirena will probably not post this on the net. There are very good reasons why the Mirena is a favourite with many gynaes - it sorts out so many things.
Just get on with life - do remember you may get some bleeding or spotting and maybe some cramps for a few weeks, the odd headache may crop up and this may make you feel a bit down and tired but once things settle The Mirena can be such an easy option  - after all you can then use as little or as much oestrogen as you want knowing your womb lining is protected. ::)  Dg x

DG...I have taken your advice and have decided the tired feeling I am getting is to do with the four day headache and the two broken nights I have had in the last week rather than the Mirena being the culprit ::)

Hi, I felt panicky after having my mirena fitted in December, I went through weeks if convincing myself every symptom was related to the mirena or the oestrogel I started on a week later.
After about six weeks of spotting, and allowing the oestrogel to start to work, everything settled now, and now,map art from odd days when my bladder still plays up, I can honestly say I've felt the best I've felt in years, and no problems from the mirena at all.
Tinkerbell, it's easy to feel the strings 😊 And I don't think it would just fall out without you noticing!

Ljp - I know you had a anxious time after you had the Mirena fitted -  I'm delighted to hear things have settled.  It can all be a bit frightening to start with but it's good to know you have your life back.  Dg x

Thank you DG I really appreciate your help, and you kept me going when my crazy mind and anxiety were telling me otherwise.

Must say I am feeling much more like the old me now 😊 A lot less anxious, no night sweats, generally so much more level headed and happier!

Just the bladder still has occasional days when it's overactive, wondering if the oestrogen builds up gradually and takes time to completely sort some symptoms, I have some estriol cream and have been debating using it alongside the estring for a few nights to bump up the oestrogen down there.
Any stress seems to make bladder worse, plus my 5:2 diet days are often bad, but I figure that's due to fasting.

I'm afraid I don't like the idea of the 5/2 diet - I couldn't do it, as I know it would give me headaches and aggravate  my bladder on the fasting days.  I am simply resigned to eating less all the time with one or two treats a week.
The oestrogel with Mirena is actually a really good combo - some women get side effects but it is good for around 80-90% of women who have one - this is why so many gynaes recommend them.
Do drink mainly water - tea, coffee and fizzy drinks will aggravate the bladder.  Dg x
