Estradot dose
« on: April 06, 2016, 10:28:05 AM »

hello all. I'm new (will say hello on the newbie thread too). I'm 46 and perimenopausal and have been having a crappy time: hot flushes, night sweats, insomnia, severe depression, brain fog, loss of libido. Basically the whole house of cards. I finally decided to ask for HRT about a month ago, and asked for plant-based transdermal oestrogen and micronised progesterone. My GP is lovely, and though she had to look up the micronised progesterone, she was perfectly willing to prescribe what I wanted. I got estradot and utrogestan, 200mg to be taken days 15-28. The good news is that the HRT definitely works. My moods - which were debilitating 5 days out of 7 - are better, the hot flushes and night sweats have diminished, my sleep is better. I had no bad reaction to the progesterone, either. Not much libido yet but I'm going to a menopause clinic in three weeks and will discuss testosterone gel. But my question is about dosage. I don't have the estradot package with me, but I'm on the lowest dose (from memory I think it's 37 micrograms (?) a day). However after two weeks of happy-go-larryness, things changed. I now have two days of good mood with a new patch, but two days of the terrible, can't-do-anything black mood too. I've tried to alleviate this by keeping the old patch on for 12 hours along with the new patch (a GP friend advised this, though not officially). I'm wary of changing the patch more frequently because even though it's a low dose, I have grade 4 endometriosis - luckily, largely asymptomatic apart from bloating and the odd throbbing - and don't want to exacerbate that. So, estradot women, what do you find works for you? Do you have mood dips too? How do you deal with it? I just don't think that being profoundly depressed 50% of the time is tolerable.

I was prescribed 50mcg but the meno specialist said I would probably need 75mcg.
I was told mine was a low dose and yours is even lower!

My situation is different to you though, I was prescribed it for VA and palpitations and although I had my last period a year ago I have not had hot flushes, mood swings or low feelings.....not yet anyway!

I am on a 100 mg patch but cut a little off as with 75 still got flushes but a tiny bit more pretty much stops them. I change it every 3 days as found the 4th day I was flushing again , a little harder to remember as its not the same days each week but one night of hot flushes reminds me,
its fantastic, couldnt manage without it

Hello again! I posted on your new member post, and want to add that I started on the US version of the same patch. Mine was .375 with 10 days of the progesterone 200mg. I've increased to .50 patch 10 days ago after a few months   on the .375.
That up and down feeling on the last day or two before a change does go away. After a few months settling in, I even needed to set a reminder on my phone to change my patch because I completely forgot about it. But I know I posted on here in my first month that I felt like the patch was running dry a day early. It's all part of the adjusting to it.

thanks Lizab, that's a comfort. I'll stick with the 37microgram for now, but might call my GP next week and see what she thinks about upping to 50. I've got an appointment with the menopause clinic at the end of the month so will discuss it all then too. Good point about the diary, I've started keeping one. As for fitness, fell running and running is the only thing that keeps me sane!

I used this patch for a while, I had more side effects when the dose was too low. When the dose was higher I felt great but went up a dress size. Now I'm back on the estrogel.
Just dropped in to say I really recommend the Testosterone…. saved my life! Not because it boosted my sex drive, but because it gave me the drive to want to do things again. When I first went into meno I lost all my lust for life. I found it's testosterone that brings that back. I am running 2 businesses now!!

yes, I'm switching the patch more frequently to try to avoid the black days, and I'm definitely getting more fat around my belly. And that's with running 35 miles a week, up huge hills, and doing lots of activity. Still, I'd rather have a belly than be profoundly depressed every couple of days. thanks for letting me know about testosterone, I'll definitely bring it up at my meno clinic appointment.
