Sorry TMI but passing loads of wind -HELP
« on: March 22, 2016, 08:32:33 PM »

First of all I apologise in advice that this is TMI but I'm too embarrassed to go to the doctor about this.

i am currently taking Femoston 2/10, been taking it for nearly 2 months.  one of the side effects is passing wind, and boy am I passing wind.
It's really bad, really smelly and really embarrassing.  Husband is going off his head and will sometimes not even sit in the same room as me.

I will hold my hands up and say my diet isn't brilliant so I guess that isn't helping but I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this and if so, what did you do to try to get rid of it.

Nothing is TMI on here!

We are what we eat.  I remember about 10 mins. B4 my period began I would have a sudden need to go to the loo and it would be 'the runs' so maybe your HRT is contributing to the extra wind bubbles!  Jot down what you eat/drink and see if you can avoid gas inducing food stuffs, i.e. greens, onions, anything that makes you windy.

Garlic and ginger are good for the gut.  Perhaps have a bland diet for 5 days - think what the Hospitals would provide after surgery, rice puddings, scrambled egg ……… we have today access to pro/pri-biotics which can help the gut as well as LIVE yoghurt, eaten often.  It lines the digestive tract and helps to increase/maintain good bacteria.

Dried toast.  Mashed potatoes.  Things that are bulky but don't produce wind.

Thank you so much for replying.  It always seems to happen early evening and some days are worse than others.

I forgot about the pro biotic yogurts, will get some do them and try that and also the bland diet.  There is far too much sugar  and artificial sweeteners in my diet.

Keep a food diary?  Jot down what you eat and drink for 5 days to see where your diet might need adjustment.  Remember too that fizzy drinks will cause wind as will talking whilst eating - what goes in and all that  ::).

I find Actimel 2/3 pots daily helps my bowel in general.  My slow bowel transit certainly keeps me 'regular'.  A spoonful of honey is healthy too.  Dad would always give us a teaspoon if we felt queasy.  Honey is a healer.

So chopped chicken stir fried with ginger, garlic, served on a bed of rice can be tasty.  Grilled chicken for a change.  Fish? (I'm not a fish fan but it's supposedly good for us  ::)).  When my dogs had upset tums the Vets. suggested chicken and rice diets, not sure where in the Wild they would find chicken and rice  ::).

Let us know how you get on!

Thanks again, a food diary is a great idea.

I have noticed since starting Femoston that I have been more regular going to the loo (sorry again TMI lol) which is definetly a good thing for me.

I went through a period of toxic wind. I do have IBS, but this was new. I took a cursory look at the FODMAPS diet, eliminated a few foods suggested and the wind decreased for eg leeks, cauliflower, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, onions. I reintroduced some back without any problems. I don't know why the toxic wind started, but adjusting my diet helped. Good excuse for this icon! :hotflash:

I had this years ago when I first started out with taking HRT - in tablet form.  I just couldn't carry on with it, plus other side effects.  The hormones have an effect on the digestive system and liver, creating the gas.

Maybe think about a change from tablet HRT to patches?
