Breast screening recall
« on: March 19, 2016, 10:44:35 PM »

Has anyone else had this happen to them.  I had my first mammogram when i was 51 and it came back as inconclusive, naturally i was beside myself with worry and feared the worst, was told it was probably because they had nothing to compare it with hence the recall, two small cyst found and no treatment needed. Three years later my second mammogram came back normal. I have just had the results in from my third one and surprise surprise another recall due to it being inconclusive. Now i have been on  Evoril Conti HRT for 4 years in May and this time i am a wee bit worried. Appointment is on Tuesday so not long to wait but as usual i am again fearing the worst. Help

This happened to me on my last mammogram for the first time. There had been a slight change compared to previous mammograms and they needed to take a closer look. All was fine, but I am reassured that they check so carefully. I was worried, but then talked to a friend, who is recalled every time! I posted on here too. Obviously you are worried in case you are one of the few who have problems, but remember they err on the side of caution. Let us know how you get on.

Take a list of what you are taking and your concerns to the appt., make sure that you understand the answers.  It may be that you will have a repeat mammo or even an ultra sound scan.  Sometimes the film is hazy so it's best that the lady is recalled.

I know it's easy for me to say but don't worry, cysts are very, very common and more common that you think because most of them don't show on mammograms, only in ultrasound scans.

I have had cysts and they are nothing to worry about but they can sometimes skew the mammogram reading hence the inconclusive report.  The clinic I go to gives you ultrasound straight after a mammogram which is more accurate and shows up much more and immediately confirms any uncertainties. I have a mammogram every other year and ultrasound every year.

The specialist told me that in his entire career, he has never seen a cyst become sinister and if it did happen, then it was not a cyst in the first place.  Also, cysts have nothing to do with taking HRT and apparently they come and go all the time or sometimes you can have them for years.

I hope they give an ultrasound and not another mammogram but good luck and please let us know how you get on.

Sometimes, if you move slightly, the image is blurred so they have to re do.

Just to let you all know everything was ok today. Had a second mammogram and then an ultra sound scan, and all was well. The reason i was recalled was because the first mammo was showing a denser patch and they wanted to check it, they put it down to the way the examination had been done, i do recall it feeling like she had squeezed too much muscle in the plates on that particular breast. Thanks to all of you that replied, i will sleep tonight. xx

Sorry, only just seen your post.  That's great news!  It's also good that you had a chance to have an ultrasound scan.
